Yes, the dress looks way better in these images. The sash/wrap fabric is gorgeous. She and Sting appear well-coordinated (and well-off, one might add). Pearson & Other Pioneers Rev. Carlton Pearson, based in Oklahoma, was the evangelical rising star and golden boy of Oral Roberts and his frightening, fire and brimstone empire. Pearson then created his own megachurch in Oklahoma (?) which attracted thousands of followers. At about this time in his career, he had an ephiphany of sorts and publically declared his belief that hell is a human construct designed to invoke fear of Godly wrath and damnation as well as to enforce devout loyalty -- again, inspired by fear -- to the church. Consequently, like rats leaping from a sinking ship, thousands of followers fled his church and their numbers dwindled down to a couple of hundred or so, Oral Roberts (and other big-tent evangelists) denounced him as a heretic, and Pearson teetered on the brink of bankruptcy. Today his church has rebounded somewhat and is now solvent. Pearson espouses God in terms of inclusivity and unconditional love. I believe Pearson sees reflections of divinity in both nature and great works of art, hence the JM lyric of his keeping Dickens,Rembrandt, Beethoven, & freshly plowed sod. For me, the pioneers seeking mental health, refer to the great thinkers, artists, prophets, etc. who, in attempting to understand the pain, problems, riddles, and/or traumas in their own lives, transcend their self-absorption via creativity to reveal universal aspects of the human condition. And, in doing so, they perhaps unearth their own sort of salvation. When I first heard this lyric, I immediately thought of JM herself and her statement that the anguish of losing her child provided much of the sustained spark for her music. She's looking mighty fine these days, so happy, and Herbie's darned cute too ;-) ohh la la ! hope all is well in your beautiful most part of the world. Here, in Winnipeg, the chill is in the aire, a reminder, it's coming on Christmas ;-) Last night I watched the TNT tribute. I believe it was broadcast in April of 2000. This is around the time that I joined the list, my my how things have changed ;--) How strange for me to go back and see TNT from this side now. I say this because I was not familiar with much of Joni's work, other than her early stuff, and then skipped over to Night Ride Home. Not sure why all the gaps, but now they are all filled in. What I do remember are all the comments made about the choices of artists to cover Joni's work. I particularly Elton John's comments after he sang People's Parties. He stood there, a little lost for words, and then smiled and said to Joni that he's performed in front of Queen Elizabeth and it was no where near as intimidating as being there that night. Joni received lots of adulations and it was wonderful to see her reactions. Now tell me, was that Don Freed sitting beside her? That's what I thought, anyway. It seemed that some of the guests shifted around, but Don was there throughout the night. He was rather verklempt or so it seemed to me, especially during the clips of Joni's younger years. After that, I started to watch Painting With Words, didnt get very far, but was amazed at how wonderful Joni looks in this video. And now that I "know" the songs so well, it's all the more enjoyable. It is my understanding that many of our list members were able to attend this wonderful evening, and I did recognize Wally and Jim. Before I watch the rest, I'd appreciate knowing who to look for :--)) thanks for the education, yall. ;-) much love, Mags - --------------------------------- Be smarter than spam. I like everything neat on my computer and consistent file formats. I guess I'm not much of a music connoisseur. I can't hear the difference between .flac and .mp3. All I know is, iTunes won't accept .flac. FLACer is a handy piece of software if you like things consistent and easily convertible in iTunes.
