Today's weather here in Texas is just picture postcard perfect. Rian, I would imagine that Rev. Pearson was the pastor at the church in Joni's hometown as she was growing up and who was a simple, enlightened man and who was rich in grace. Preaching for him wasn't based on themes of a veangeful God who we should be in fear of 24-7 for the rest of our lives. It's about finding the Universal God through love, truth, beauty, in harmony with the flow of nature in everything we do and experience--inspiration comes, for example, in plowing the earth, listening to great composers and reading the works of wonderful writers and so many other things in this life's journey that truly matter. Rev. Pearson lived a good life as an example for many others, including us, through Joni's song. That's my take. About the pioneers--I feel she's talking about those passionate individuals thrashing paths through vast, unexplored territories, the mind--the mental health workers who are the true healers and whose life's mission is one of compassion and searching for the methods for understanding one another as God understands us. People like Rev. Pearson, Fr. Delaney and so many others here on the JMDL and everywhere, dead and alive, whose souls are so mercilessly sweet, kind, warm, and comforting, are powerful examples for me just to keep on truckin' along when the burdens and crosses gets too heavy. The life they lived and live and the love they shared and share, gives me the strength to get myself up off the ground again and again... "you lucky bunnies." RR we lucky bunnies paid dearly, but it was worth it. it was a benefit after all. we waded through the sleaze on vine to get to the theater. catherine said:I saw Herbie fairly close up at the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame awards when he was doing media interviews. Is something wrong with this photo? What's up? obviously a whacked lens used. i saw no tummy in evidence. joni has been slim for quite a while, at least whenever i've seen her. those pleated silk dresses feel so go-ood ya just have to wear 'em. what has worried me for the last few years has been the water retention in joni's face- like frank sinatra's got. neil young's has that too and he isn't fat, he has only, the to be expected, middle age slump- isn't that just the pull of moon on tide? my mom was a smoker and that facial puffiness was a sign of pulmonary edema, her heart not working right, and this got my mom, heart trouble. so it was so fantastic to see joni's face not so round. now i can worry about something else. please don't tell me that this is a natural sign of aging. i'm well on my way at 54. from paz: I already told you it's gonna happen. Not a long tour, but it will e longer than her last ones and she will have a great time i agree this felt like a trial run. she will definatey make some appearances so those are my impressions, and only that. as many have said: it was so wonderful that joni did this.. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2007 06:40:43 -0700 (PDT) From: Brian Gross Subject: Re: Re Herbie tribute and JONI tonight According to one of the articles in the media, it was being recorded for later broadcast on BET (Black Entertainment Television) - --- Michael Paz wrote: > It was being taped with multiple cameras. It looks like the "pack" slipped around to the front, making her look pregnant. But... I like the Issey Miyake stuff. It's a bit weird and very different. Not sure if I'd wear it. I'm sure they don't make it in my size. Short and dumpy. This demo version of Shades Of Scarlet Conquering is possibly even more powerful than the original released. It just doesn't get any better than listening to Joni paying the piano unaccompanied and singing solo with that gorgeous voice. I downloaded the FLAC versions before I knew they were FLAC - are they noticeably improved over the version on bigozine6.com? I have not heard of FLAC before. Since one of my settings is for Tivo to record anything with Joni, I checked it to see if it would be recording that automatically. Well, it wasn't, BUT what did come up was that JONI WILL BE INTERVIEWED ON "THE TAVIS SMILEY SHOW" on SATURDAY, NOV. 10TH AT 12:00 AM!! (I think that would be Friday at midnight). Check your local listings. The program is 30 minutes. Seeing Joni on TV twice in one week is so exciting. Did anyone record the program with her on Sirius radio last week. I'd love to get to hear that too. I didn't check if it was archived there. It was great fun to read. Also, thanks for the picture of Joni from the concert. Since we've begun talking fashion, I'll put my two cents in. I love the color and texture of Joni's dress but I don't like that belt (is it a belt?) or strip or whatever in the middle. If that was gone, the dress would work perfectly! I also agree Joni looks happy. Good for her. And of course, my DVR is set for recording on Sunday! My cable actually had no guide/info available for the past couple of days (technology sheesh...it wins against man every time). I put off calling the cable company because normally it takes HOURS to get through to them. Since I knew you can't set anything up for recording without the guide, I gave them a call and after a half hour, I got through! A great idea! Now, I may be dreaming, but now that I think of it, a doll molded to the image of Joni Mitchell would be awesome for girls and boys alike. It would with a doll house made to resemble, 'this place,' filled with little instruments, especially a piano, including regular sized Joni songbooks, lyrics and workbooks with lessons to teach kids to learn to read music, poetry, painting, and so many other things Joni is all about . It would not be made in China with lead filled paint or anywhere else. We here on the JMDL would make them durable to last a lifetime, out of recycled material. I could go on and on... But, yes, I would invest, to make the lives of the little ones on Earth soar through their creative imagination to make this world a better place for the little ones' children and their children's children and on and on, on the carousel of quality time, going round and round in a circle of truth and beauty. Jeannie NP: La Valse D'Amelie in piano~~Yann Tierson PS: If I would have had a Joni doll when I was 5 years old and my mother just threw me on a piano with a scary, graceless woman who wouldn't let my grandmother or grandfather stay with me during lessons, I'd still be playing my piano and my fiddle because my friend would have always been with me, like she is now! Just because piano teacher could play pretty notes, she played it like a grouchy, angry, overweight woman without heart and soul who would change personalities once my mom went on her merry way to do the things she liked to do without me in her way and then she'd wonder without asking or thinking why I wasn't learning. (Sometimes the ones we love the most are the ones who take my breath away thinking of the things they do in careless ignorance, slothfulness and clueless heartlessness.) PS2: I'm stuck on pianos right now because of Herbie Hancock's River on which I'm rowing and flowing on, still, especially when the moon and stars shine on my side of town and I always sneak Ry Cooder on in between Joni, Luciana, Tina, Corinne, Norah and Leonard Cohen~~the best! :) Em wrote: I wanna see her in 501's... we could have a Joni Mitchell paperdoll and put whatever we want on her.... :P Em - --- Jerry Notaro wrote: > The face is amazing, the dress is awful.
