Very nice. Belissima (sp). Nice guitar playing. You have a strong voice too. I've only listened to People's Parties so far (takes a while to download) but I'm impressed. That's two outstanding Italian performers on this list that I know of so far. Just imagine Danilo and Pamela doing a duet. You guys should get together and record My Secret Place or Good Friends. Just a thought. Mark in Sydney ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Oct 2007 09:58:04 +0200 From: "Pamela" Subject: re:joni covers Thanks Mark! I'm going to record other songs of Joni...but what about the pronunciation?! I need to know if it's ok! Pam ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Oct 2007 10:11:20 +0200 From: "Oddmund Kaarevik" Subject: Joni to the Children I was babysitting my friend's two year old kid this weekend. On Sunday I was getting kind of tired of all the children songd he played again and again. So I thought, hey why don't try with some Good Joni Mitchell music. Well, most of the album was much to slow for his taste... But then he discovered "Night of the Iguana" --- and that was something for him. He listened to it again and again. I think we heard it eleven times that verey day.... If Joni ever makes a Children Compilation, which I of course know she never will, that track should definately be there... I was so releaved that the melodies on shine are so Bright. The text were so heavy, so the melody lightens the whole heavy load for me.... N.P. Bad dreams are good in the great plan Best! Depends on who you include though...you start throwing people like Bacharach, Rodgers, Gershwin into the pool and it gets a lot bigger. As far as the pop/rock era, which is what we're talking about, Joni is definitely up there though. I'm not going to claim that Herbie's tribute is my favorite...there are just too many to choose from, and some of the best from them outshine the Hancock trib. Rachel Z, David Lahm, Lydia van Dam, Ian Shaw, Big Yellow Taxi, A Bird That Whistles, among others all have their moments. Sadly (name recognition being what it is), since Herbie is more established and is using well-known performers to boot, his project has received way more attention than most of other equally-deserving projects. Where is anyone other than Joan Mitchell to speak out?A little synchronicity: I thought the very same thing driving home today...Songbirds--singers, speakers of truth; Crows--JWB Spin Machine and Fox news.Jill from Seattle **** I hear you, brother and sister. There are some, but I fear they are being drowned out by the oppressive, loud, obnoxious, swiftboating Fox news types. Or worse than being drowned out, SMASHED. (Par example: Dixie Chicks' smashed CDs. Joan Baez -- where have all the flowers gone?-- not being allowed to sing with the aforementioned John Mellencamp at an army hospital benefit/tribute/whatever, etc.) I think of Cindy Sheehan, Yoko (whether you can stand her or not), Dennis Kucinich, Chris Dodd (I met him last week at a human rights awards ceremony and I really like him.....here's a little something if you have the time or the inclination) http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=14694831 ,Ela Gandhi (although she's not out there that much), and you know there may be more. They're standing on noisy corners, playing real good for free, but nobody stops to hear them, or worse yet, nobody is allowed to hear them. Then of course there is Neil, and Bruce, and Graham, and Jackson, etc, not playing for free, of course, but playing, and people complain about having to hear their politics at a concert. Truth gets lost in the loud crazy crows crowd of smug fools like Limbaugh (with his "phony soldiers") and O'Reilly, or maybe Saddam Hussein killed all the Mandelas like GWB suggested (GWB, the self-proclaimed "war president" who says "we do not torture", who won't fund health care for CHILDREN that would only cost ten weeks of what the bloody WAR costs and who said on Valentine's Day 2007 that "money trumps peace" and nobody picked up on that in the media except for Cindy Sheehan but nobody listens to HER because she doesn't "support the troops" -- what a crock of merde THAT is.)Mr. War President:You cannot be trustedDo you even know you're lyingIt's dangerous to kid yourselfYou go deaf and dumb and blind. You take with such entitlement. You give bad attitude. You have no grace No empathyNo gratitudeYou have no sense of consequenceOh my head is in my hands... And then along comes Hana. Hana says: Get a good grip on your grief!Power to the PEOPLE! Where is the lion in you to defy him???? (Sorry, I'm not yelling at anyone *here*, I'm just roaring like forest fire today after reading more of the BLACKWater news....and it sure looks bad. If I had a heart, I'd cry. You can't even laugh, it's all so crazy.) So thank God Joni is back. Come on, Joni, light my fire. Oh honey, you turn me on. You are back just in time! Mighty Joni! Super Joni! Here she comes to save the day! Let your little light shine. And if we could put all our little lights together, they'd be like blazes, all across the sky! "Come together, right now, over Joni." (credit to the Beatles there) Phew. That felt good. Thanks for letting me shake my fists today. And no, I'm not "on" anything. Just Shine. Life is for learning on the JMDL, comme toujours. It's long (29 minutes), so if you don't have time for it all, I suggest watching the trailer (1:07 - 3:11) and the Bono part (8:16 - 9:24) where they show the clip of Bono playing a Ken Kesey part. It's psychedelic, man! I was really impressed with her passion and her creative determination, and her very expressive hands. She said the film is a rock opera. Joseph, I don't know what you will think of it, but I know already that I will love it. I just wish it would come to CT....none of my googling will give me a date. She said she she gave a private screening to Paul McCartney* (imaginez-vous!) and he liked it. I really like Charlie Rose's show. JMDL rumor has it that Joni is going to be on it. Of all the talk shows, I think this is the best one for her. I just don't see her with Letterman or Leno. She's got too much class for jokesters, imo. Can't you just picture her impossibly gentle hands, gesticulating with her cigarette, white smoke billowing and wafting up against that stark black background, and TALKING? (Charlie Rose let Sean Penn smoke when he was on.) Good things are happening in Joniland! Love, Patti P. * I don't think Paul was at last night's Imagine Peace Tower dedication. I went to http://imaginepeace.com/ and there is a video clip of Yoko and Ringo and Olivia getting off a yellow bus in Iceland, with children singing in the background (so lovely!) and it stops after a few seconds. MERDE! Is it just my computer, or does that happen for everyone? I am very frustrated over this.
