They have had a lot of critism because they have grown so fast and compared to fast food restaurants like McDonalds. That's why it surprises me that Joni would be associated with them. They opened their first store in Australia about 6 years ago and now there are hundreds all over the country. I still have the cup that I stole from their first Australian store, ironically, at street level of the same building where the US Consulate is. I guess there is the point that you make about Joni starting out in coffee houses but Starbucks is an enormous chain. Not like the down and dirty coffee houses which put on new acts to attract customers. Maybe it's the same thing only on a larger scale. They are all accommodating while you are the new, hip thing but when the novelty wears off, they will just bury you. Your life is over when you drop out of the top ten. True, Mark, and yes, support your local coffee place if you have a good one, but certainly Starbucks is no worse of a place than every major label in music is. I might argue they're actually less harmful--I'm quite sure Joni would agree. As I noted before, I don't see Joni working with a small indie or selling these things herself, so this seems like an OK compromise. Will Taylor and Strings Attached is hosting three concerts of Joni Music (each concert is the same) this weekend in beautiful, cool (Yeah Austin is still hip enough to be cool and for July we are rather chilly this year) and electric Austin, Texas. Will takes the music of artist and adds string accompanyment to their music along with bringing in local vocalist to sing (Shawn Colvin, Eliza Gilkyson, Joe Ely, etc. in the past). Due to the summer touring schedule the Joni Mitchell series has been difficult for Will to schedule and thus last minute changes have been in abundance. If you go to the web site: http://www.stringsattached.org/ you can purchase tickets for each evening on the web site. This will be a wonderful evening and I will be attending Friday and Saturday evening performances. I'm flying in late Friday so would not be able to do anything before but would like to hook up with other JMDL'ers who are in attendance afterwards both nights. I would attend a NO fest or a FLA fest whichever is available. As far as Full Moon goes I'd attend that one too. So all fest planners please put me on your list. Donna (can you tell I have travel fever today?) >>> Michael Paz 7/21/2007 11:49 PM >>> Queen Lucy- This looks like such a fab place. I would love to go here, but I don't know if I can pull it off. I am currently studying doing another fest next year as I had discussed with Ashara and at the urging of so many. I can do one in New Orleans which would be great. Howlin' Wolf has agreed to host us there any day I want. There is a Episcopal retreat on the Northshore (swimming pools, private rooms for up to 100 + performance spaces, lakes, etc. for about $100 a day with meals but no booze included, we can bring our own) that is perfect for a retreat type gathering and we can do a tour bus into New Orleans for an all star event like we had last time at the Wolf. I have a hotel sponsor that I can host people for $89.00 a night right on Lee Circle (8 blocks from the French Quarter) so I have options. Many new Orleans artists have expressed great interest in doing another tribute show as part of our festivities. Club Med in Florida offers an all inclusive package with all meals and premium booze included that was $100 per person per night as of last year. I am waiting for another quote from the agent that is helping me. I would like to do all of them (Full Moon, UK, and Florida or New Orleans). I am already scheduled to go to Spain next year with my family and I think that is in June so UK will probably be out for me unless a tour comes thru for the band next August with one of the promoters that hosted us this year. It is in the planning stages so it is possible. Lets have an open discussion cause I hate to see Ashara cancel Full Moon. I will go with what the majority wants to do. I love the gatherings where ever they may be. I will let you guys know when I hear back from the Club Med people on the new prices this year. As well as the links for you guys to check everything out. Best of luck with your plans and I hope it works out that I am in your area at the time it happens. My take on it is that it is going to be absolute max #200 for accommodations (I don't understand the single supplement bit...so add #30 to the cost as a precaution) with campers taking off #20. so #180 if you camp. These prices can come down obviously...if single sups dont apply if all the space is taken (I hope) We would need to agree about catering. They can arrange caterers, but I think, to keep costs down, We could, between us find some willing hands to share the meal prep so that we can have a great breakfast, and an evening meal for around about #20 per person per day. This does not incude alcohol, we would bring our own. SAy #10 per head for Thursday and Monday, #20 for Friday Sat and Sunday. The run of the FEST would go something like this Thursday Arrive and have a gathering and meal for those arriving that night, song circle and general FEST type catching up and enjoying Friday Breakfast say between 9.00 and 10.30, clear up Free time to go and take in the Rollright Stones, general rambling in the countryside or what ever you fancy doing There are some great places around there. 7pm supper 9.00pm performances and whatever usually happens Saturday Breakfast Free time, I would suggest a visit to Bourton on the Water or whatever you fancy doing 7 pm meal and evening performances, song circle etc, Sunday: Breakfast, clear up and lazy morning Free time, chilling or site seeing 5 pm barbeque and activities (I would like a re-run of the song tag competition) Maybe a story circle of our favourite Joni related stories, personal experiences, Evening performances Monday morning breakfast and clear up and leave by 12.00 noon. Just to make this clear I am proposing that the catering is done on a not for profit basis and that any money left overr be donated to several charities. I am either thinking of an AIDS charity like the Terrence Higgins Trust and A leukaemia support charity such as the Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia Support Association. I do not envisage much being over but I think its good to moot these points now. All accounts will be open to inspection and available to all who attend the FEST. I will suggest that a Pay Pal account is set up for this venture so that there is a clear audit trail for monies in and out. SO what say you. I need to put down a deposit very very soon so I need you to commit now but no money would be needed until about May 2008.
