It's pretty funny but I've been playing it for the last week now. How cool is that? I haven't picked up my guitar in a while and now "I've got blisters on my fingers!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfUHYzDxTkk I've been on the list for ages and maybe right from the start. I usually don't post but always read and enjoy the discussions. Love it! For the old-times on the list I am the one whose sunflower painting was chosen for a Joni birthday card years back. That was quite the highlight for me! I still can't believe that even now. I heard Court and Spark when I was in high school and was totally blown away by it. I went right out and bought all albums that Joni had out prior to this and have been a fan ever since. I guess I love the list because not many understand the passion we have for her music and lyrics and also the "understanding" of Joni. She hits us to the core with so many truths in ways we ourselves cannot express. Coming out of lurkdom to say hey, and thanks! Sue Cooper PS- a special hey to a special GOOFBALL on the list and he KNOWS who he is!!!!!!!!!!! ;-) _________________________________________________________________ http://imagine-windowslive.com/hotmail/?locale=en-us&ocid=TXT_TAGHM_migration_HM_mini_2G_0507 ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Jul 2007 10:02:26 -0400 (EDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: Animated Dry Cleaner - --- Bob Muller wrote: > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9uIJ343js0 > > Here's a very clever animated video accompanying > "The Dry Cleaner From Des Moines". Sometimes when you listen to a song after not listening to it for a while, (or see a video you had never seen before), something jumps out. This time it was the lines, "I was born and raised in New York City, I'm just getting used to Colorado" and I wonder who, if anyone, Joni was portraying in this song? Not normally my type of question, since I prefer just to listen to the words and music, but I wonder if this was meant to be the voice of anyone in particular? If no one knows, it's no big deal. In 2005 we were close to 45 Jonifesters already so it shouldn't be less next year. Incidentally I was just at Jean Yves' mill today (location of the 05 Fest) and he has created more terrasses, seats to view sunset from, herb garden, fruit trees, etc. The basins are dry this year so I could walk inside the 2 grottos and marvel at the natural sculptures inside. He'd be willing to let us hold a Fest again at his place. I have this drawing framed and hanging on my wall and I always thought, because the James Taylor figure is not colored in and because the game being played is solitaire, he is not physically present "but tonight I can feel you here"... and that the drawing takes place at Joni's place in Canada because of the ocean in the background and because she "hear's it in the wind" and the "Arbutus" and "the moon sweeping down black water"; and a bottle of Jack looks to me like an empty bottle which is being used as a vase to hold the rose. In other words I think the drawing represents Joni's thoughts as she looks at her empty room (the bedspread also looks like something Joni would have in her home rather than a hotel bedspread, and I assumed it was her guitar lying on the bed) and imagines that James is there and from there begins to think about him leaving to go have "some guy circulate his heart around". I think this is one of Joni's greatest songs, musically and lyrically. And was even impressed by the Travelogue version which to me fleshed out the darker side of the lyric... the beauty of the original guitar piece now does not seem to quite capture the starkness of "the empty spotlight"... signing off for now, Peace, David - --------------------------------- Moody friends. Yes, but they also have a music label, called "Hear Music". They've put out several compilations and most recently the latest Paul McCartney CD. About a bazillion....make it a bazillion and one...two...three...get it? They are literally everywhere there is disposable income. Coffeehouses, which are more night-clubbish than coffee shops which are more morning-oriented. I like their coffee a lot, it's dark & rich. They offer lots of different kinds. They don't do donuts. The "worship" I have never seen as overtly religious but more that 'worship' that comes from adoring fans who see their hero as a (demi-)god or from critics who can turn so quickly as Joni discovered when she released her masterpeice HOSL. This line is almost a warning to herself not to get too caught up in the hype - something I think she accomplished artistically as she was never prepared to repeat but always to progress. The line also echoes LOTC "tiny hammers hurled at bevelled mirrors and empty halls". Regards Kevin I just never thought of it as anything else but crucifixion. This interpetation is great and fits so well. And, as someone else said - as usual Joni could have intended the two meanings. They both work, but I'm so glad to get this new read. ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Jul 2007 21:44:44 -0500 From: Michael Paz Subject: Re: [NortheastJonifest] Re: Eurofest 2008 ENGLAND August 21(evening) to Monday 25th (am) LONG and complicated but please respond. Sorry I don;t mean to confuse the issue. I am just threatening to have one. It has been over a year in the development and I will make a formal announcement pending finishing my research. I was going to do one this year, but decided to not do it to not interfere with Full Moon, but I think Lucy is right, the more gatherings the better cause everyone can't do everything and everybody wants to do something.
