Darqui, who was French, assumed the name was spelled "Jaco"; "Jaco" liked the new spelling. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Jul 2007 11:15:14 -0400 From: motitan@aol.com Subject: Night Ride Home on YouTube ? I know this was mentioned on the list before but I just want to reiterate that the Night Ride Home performance of Joni in Amsterdam is FF (ff=fucking fantastic!)!? I'm not so familiar with the song as I don't have the album yet but this performance/song brings me a good amount of comfort.? I'm excited to get the album in the future!? ? The performance itself is very intimate and Joni seemed to be enjoying herself which matters a great deal.? If a performer isn't enjoying him or herself, it shows.? So what more do you want?? What more do you need???? - -Monika, currently at the library, picking up a few items and watching some YouTube ________________________________________________________________________ AOL now offers free email to everyone. A Tribute To Joni Mitchell D+ The scope of former-Canadian Joni Mitchell's musical reach is undeniable. From wan, folkie songstress to hybrid gin-and-smokes jazz composer and painter, Mitchell has never kowtowed to fashion, real or imagined. Tribute albs are dodgy propositions at best, more than mildly embarrassing for all involved at worst, and this dozen-tracker is pretty dodgy. The no-brainers are in short supply -- Emmylou Harris, kd lang, Sarah McLachlan and Annie Lennox all bring requisite amounts of respect for the orginal Mitchell versions while adding just a little of each of their own specialness to the tunes. The remainder - particularly excremental contributions by Elvis Costello, James Taylor, Prince, Sufjan Stevens and Bjork - make this one stinker of a release. Whoever dreamed up this conglomeration of crap should be made to breath Joni's second-hand smoke for a week while filling up her paint pots. ***** - --------------------------------- Be smarter than spam. While I must question the credentials of a journalist that can't spell "breathe", I did hear Bjork's contribution on the radio the other day, and thought it was nearly as bad as Sufjan Stevens'. The decision to gut the chord progression on "Boho Dance" leaves Bjork essentially singing one-note monotones throughout the song. Seemed lame to me (and I like Bjork generally). Amazon customer reviewers mostly seem to either love it or hate it, averaging 3 stars overall. I'll probably pick it up on ebay someday for the price of shipping. I know pretty much all of Joni's lyrics and so what I do, is play the melody in my head. Then, I do the ta, da, da for the music, and that's when the her lines come back to me, again. Joni's lyrics make me laugh and cry, and at times, leave me in awe, especially when she gives a tough punch of truth and compassion stronger than any man or rowdy male musician I've experienced when my soul gets touched. jeannie NP; My Higher Self ~Van Morrison~ Patti Parlette wrote: I dream of Jeannie dreaming dreamland wrote: "Patti got me humming and thinking JLTT lyrics."
