Truth and beauty and fierce passion is what you were, nuestra querida, Frida. Gracias por la belleza que nos dejastes. In remembrance of Frida.. Hurry To The Source Of Life How could the soul not take flight When from the glorious Presence A soft call sweet as honey, comes right up to her And whispers, "Rise up now, come away." How could the fish not jump Immediately from dry land into water When the sound of water from the ocean Of fresh waves spring to his ear How could the hawk not fly away Forgetful of all the hunting to the wrist of the king As soon as he hears the drum The king's baton hits again and again, Drumming out the signal of return? How could the Sufi not start to dance Turning on himself, like an atom, in the sun of eternity So he can leap free of this dying world? Fly away, fly away bird to your native home you have leapt free of your cage Your wings are flung back in the wind of God. Leave behind the stagnant and marshy waters, Hurry, hurry, go now, O sweet bird, to the source of Life ~Rumi~ jeannie NP under a thunderous and dark sky: A Case Of You--Prince Both sky and song are beautiful. My soul is Sufi spinning. - --------------------------------- Don't be flakey. Get Yahoo! At present there is no complete volume of Joni Mitchell's piano/vocal music (e.g. songs like "The Last Time I Saw Richard"); and previous publications that attempt to present piano/vocal transcriptions, like the "Joni Mitchell Songbooks" of the 1970s, have woefully poor transcriptions. I would like to propose a new publication that will include all of the piano/vocal music (including songs that include other instruments, like "Let the Wind Carry Me.") As a music editor, I would oversee the transcriptions to ensure that they are accurate, and as an engraver (copyist) I would ensure that they are not simply readable but graphically stunning and beautiful. Who would I contact to discuss such a project? Does anyone know the contact information for her manager, or whoever oversees her music publications? Many thanks, - --Tom Brodhead http://home.att.net/~tom.brodhead ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Jul 2007 23:32:18 +0100 From: "Jamie's Box of Paints" Subject: Re: J.M. piano/vocal music publication proposal I would certainly love this! The full 'Blue' version intro to TLTISR would be amazing... I'm sure I could work it out but it might drive my neighbours crazy... I think there is (was) a complete works out last year but there were so many mistakes in the guitar side that they had to go back and re-do it... we still await the 2nd Edition Much Joni Jamie Zoob On 06/07/07, Charles Ives wrote: > Greetings, > > I'm a professional music engraver (i.e. music copyist) and music editor who has worked for 14 years in classical music publishing. > > I would like to propose a new publication that will include all of the piano/vocal music (including songs that include other instruments, like "Let the Wind Carry Me.") Alternatively, one could contact BMI and ask for the publisher of a particular song. They usually file it under the artist who recorded it. This route might not yield the name of the holder of print rights, however. Be aware that the publishers who hold print rights tend to be very defensive about the quality of their product, so reminding them what a sloppy careless job they did is probably NOT the best opening gambit. The 'complete' guitar book that Jamie mentioned which was quickly withdrawn (it was incomplete) was published by Alfred. Joni's management is Macklam/Feldman Management out of Vancouver. Full contact info can be found here: http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=599788 It would be great to have full transcriptions of her piano music. I know the For The Roses ones were pretty good, though not perfect, and the Blue and LadiesofCanyon ones were bad. I think mostly they have been inaccurate. There are people on this list that have worked on them.
