After attending this year's Jonifest I was made aware that quite a few people have actually met Joni. So, have YOU met Joni Mitchell? If so, where and when was this? Just curious. - -Monika ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Jun 2007 22:38:58 EDT From: Motitan@aol.com Subject: Circle Game vs. Sugar Mountain You know, the Circle Game was written in response to Neil Young's "Sugar Mountain." Which one do you side with more? Do you crave your childhood or are you comfortable with where you are? "Oh, to live on sugar mountain With the barkers and the colored balloons, You cant be twenty on sugar mountain Though youre thinking that youre leaving there too soon, Youre leaving there too soon. Its so noisy at the fair But all your friends are there And the candy floss you had And your mother and your dad. Oh, to live on sugar mountain With the barkers and the colored balloons, You cant be twenty on sugar mountain Though youre thinking that youre leaving there too soon, Youre leaving there too soon. Theres a girl just down the aisle, Oh, to turn and see her smile. You can hear the words she wrote As you read the hidden note. Oh, to live on sugar mountain With the barkers and the colored balloons, You cant be twenty on sugar mountain Though youre thinking that youre leaving there too soon, Youre leaving there too soon. Now youre underneath the stairs And youre givin back some glares To the people who you met And its your first cigarette. Oh, to live on sugar mountain With the barkers and the colored balloons, You cant be twenty on sugar mountain Though youre thinking that youre leaving there too soon, Youre leaving there too soon. Now you say youre leavin home cause you want to be alone. Aint it funny how you feel When youre findin out its real? Oh, to live on sugar mountain With the barkers and the colored balloons, You cant be twenty on sugar mountain Though youre thinking that youre leaving there too soon, Youre leaving there too soon. Oh, to live on sugar mountain With the barkers and the colored balloons, You cant be twenty on sugar mountain Though youre thinking that youre leaving there too soon, Youre leaving there too soon." VS. "Yesterday a child came out to wonder Caught a dragonfly inside a jar Fearful when the sky was full of thunder And tearful at the falling of a star Then the child moved ten times round the seasons Skated over ten clear frozen streams Words like when you're older must appease him And promises of someday make his dreams And the seasons they go round and round And the painted ponies go up and down We're captive on the carousel of time We can't return we can only look Behind from where we came And go round and round and round In the circle game Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone now Cartwheels turn to car wheels thru the town And they tell him take your time it won't be long now Till you drag your feet to slow the circles down And the seasons they go round and round And the painted ponies go up and down We're captive on the carousel of time We can't return we can only look Behind from where we came And go round and round and round In the circle game So the years spin by and now the boy is twenty Though his dreams have lost some grandeur coming true There'll be new dreams maybe better dreams and plenty Before the last revolving year is through And the seasons they go round and round And the painted ponies go up and down We're captive on the carousel of time We can't return we can only look Behind from where we came And go round and round and round In the circle game" - ------------------------------ Hmm..... I don't know. Joni says, "There'll be new dreams maybe better dreams and plenty" But it seems the older I get the more cynical I grow. I know I wholeheartedly enjoyed my childhood. Right now it is a bumpy ride.....where are these better dreams? I know I will always have my hope but...it fades and fades and fades.....without hope where would we be? Nietzsche brought up the question, "did God make man or did man make God?" Now I certainly have my own answer but I can see it from both sides now (pun intended!). I could easily make a debate for either side.....and you'd believe me either way. - -Monika, feeling philosophical ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Jun 2007 22:49:40 EDT From: Motitan@aol.com Subject: Joni's stage banter? As we all know, Joni has often talked quite a bit in between songs in concerts in the past. That being said, do you have a favorite concert quote or anything? I know the "Van Gogh Starry Night" stage banter is pretty famous. I've seen it in quite a few articles now. But what is YOUR favorite quote or story that Joni has said or told? - -Monika ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2007 #189 ********************************* ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
