Liberace's piano solo is simply wonderful, and the give and take between Cass and Phyllis Diller is to die for! Just kidding, It's just Cass solo with a fairly sparse arrangement. Drums, organ, strings. I like it. Doug Mark-Leon Thorne wrote: > Just as long as it's not Andy Williams. Bruce Vaughn" Subject: Re: Cass Elliot sings I Had A King Cass Elliot had one of those "one of a kind voices" that you know it was her from the first note. She could even make some pretty cheesey tracks sound good let alone Joni covers. Her little sister Leah Kunkel (then married to session drummer Russ Kunkel) probably better known as a backup singer for James Taylor, Art Garfunkel and others released 2 albums on Columbia in the early 80's. They're finally available on a 2-fer CD. If you knew she was Cass's little sister you saw the resemblance in the face but you KNEW she was "little Cass" when she sang. Her albums have guest spots from Jackson Browne and Grahan Nash to name a few. The CD is a pricey little devil if you can find it but worth every $$$. Unfortunately, I couldn't attend. I've been looking for a repeat performance forever and haven't found it. Does anyone know of a JM cover band that plays in the New York area or surrounding area's? I've never seen her in concert and just to hear her songs played live would be such a pleasure...thanks! joanna np: NOTHING! i'm stuck in a friends place with no good music! ughh.. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 May 2007 18:38:46 EDT From: RoseMJoy@aol.com Subject: Re: New Cass Cover thanks Doug & Bob NP: Mama Cass ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 May 2007 18:38:19 -0400 From: Victor Johnson Subject: Re: Joni Mitchell cover band Joanna, Kay Ashley is playing at The Living Room tonight. I just LOVE "Banquet." What do you guys think of that song? I haven't seen it get much word anywhere really. I just love the words to it (the whole idea of it!), the piano (especially that intro!), and Joni's singing really is top notch on it. I could point out a bunch of different lines where you hear a little more "oomph" in the vocals. The vocals are wild in a sense. I mean they're wild in a controlled sense (still on key and in tune and everything) but there's something very loose about the vox. The whole song just kills me! What an idea man! - -Monika ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 May 2007 00:45:53 -0400 From: kjhsf@aol.com Subject: Man from Mars REQUEST Well I've been completely frustrated by the fact that my former laptop was not allowing me to access and download files. An interesting collection as usual. My favourite of this bunch is the Spin Doctors take on Woodstock. Obviously a cover of CSN's version but great nonetheless. I've always like the Spin Doctors' passion for their style of music. They are always enthusiastic. I look forward to the next volume.
