The Crown and Anchor was a seedy dive (known locally for its brawling and prostiutes). It also had a heavily tatooed biker element. The police were regular visitors and the pub clients were certainly familiar with the inside of our local magistrates court. the Crown and Acnhor is now transformed into 7 apartments for those who are less than able to function in society without a lot of supervision. I thought it was odd that Joni knew about the place, and was a little impressed that she had clearly been to Gosport and was asking for this job in the pub to be given to her, or else she would catch an aeroplane to somewhere else... I also harboured a secret suspicion that she had been to our local planning department and named a really bijou new development as, not 15 minutes from my door is "Little Green" Ah well it was good when I was 14m and Joni was my newly discovered friend. I realise that I came later to her than some but it really does not matter. I am just glad that my first listening to JOni was not Taming the Tiger... I would never had listened to another thing. My girlfriend rolled over and sarcastically asked if I wanted to run & turn on the computer so I could be the first tell my fellow stalkers all about the big event. LOL! Yeah, okay so she calls us stalkers. She has been to a Jonifest though and loved it! But Dave is a Joni fan - I still recall her doing Sex Kills on the show back in was that 93 or 94? My dear friend Mack posts to this board. A few months ago I read several very kind comments on this board after Mack posted about the deaths of my sons, Andy and Steven. I have now come to a point where I can try and respond to some of the things people did for me then. I wanted to thank everyone for the words of empathy and encouragement. I did read them and I did take comfort from it. For you all to take the time and effort to write words of comfort to a complete stranger speaks much about the kind of people who frequent this board. A caring group to be sure. I also want to tell everyone.........love your kids every chance you get. Hold them, hug them and tell them you love them every time you get the chance. It is hard to imagine and it is human nature to push the thought away, but we never know when that hug, that kiss, that "I love you" might be the last chance we ever get. Thank you again, you are very much appreciated...................Rosalie ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 May 2007 15:32:16 +0200 From: "mike pritchard" Subject: Re: Four Dead in Ohio -- 37 years ago, now some joni content Neil Young's 'Ohio' was, along with War's 'Spill the Wine', banned on public radio in the UK when first released, although in north wales we listened mostly to pirate radio and had no problem listening to it, although all the songs had morse code in the background (they broadcast from ships in international waters). Arlo Guthrie, Chicago, Ramblin Jack Elliot and hundreds more who got no airplay on national radio. The signal quality was crap though and could only be picked up at night in wales and always with the Radio Liberty tones in the background (or am I misremembering this?). My favourite DJ then was Kid Jensen, a Canadian who later moved to the Beeb. Joni had a hard time at the IoW but mostly through circumstances beyond her control. He granted an interview to our culture rag, the Voir, in which half of the interview was devoted to his collaboration with Joni on the ballet project, The Fiddle and the Drum. Roughly paraphrased, he says this: It was a great learning experience for him. Joni claims it was one of her best experiences of working collaboratively since Mingus. He claims that another ballet project with her is planned, but he did not specify when it would happen. He says artists such as Joni have lances that plunge into the soul and abcesses of the human heart. The greater the artist, the deeper the lance pentrates. The artist plunges it in, pulls it out and looks at, observes it. Joni destabilizes the human consciousness. As for the music - the lyrics are painful, but the accompanying sounds - the guitar work and the chords she composes are beautiful. But the words are ugly. With Fiddle and the Drum, they didn't want to create a moralising tract - they didn't want answers to questions, they simply wanted to ask lots of questions. The questions of great artists such as Shakespeare and Joni are eternal.
