Just two of Angela and four of the hike Patrick, Les Irwin, Michelle and I took on Saturday morning. Didn't take any performance photos 'cos Murphy was all over the place. Congrats on your purchase of TI - what stands out as your favorite tracks on it? Bob NP: Kings of Leon, "Because Of The Times" My favorite songs on TI, thats a tough one they're all really good songs. Last Chance Lost and Not To Blame stand out so far, though not by much. You mentioned that you weren't sure if Blue was one of your top 5 Joni albums. What would be your top 5? ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Apr 2007 11:26:47 EDT From: Motitan@aol.com Subject: Painting With Words & Music, a good buy? I was at Border's last night (I like to go there every couple of months, read the interesting music magazines and enjoy a cup of tea) and slowly but surely checked out the "M" section. That being said, I noticed the "Painting With Words and Music" dvd. Is that a good Joni buy? I've seen it before in stores but...you know. So? What are your opinions on it? - -Monika ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Apr 2007 11:32:31 EDT From: Motitan@aol.com Subject: Miles Of Aisles vs. Shadows And Light I noticed on the favorite live albums question, quite a few of you picked "Shadows and Light" over "Miles Of Aisles." Would you say that is the superior one? Why? Now you see, I haven't heard "Shadows and Light" nor have I seen the DVD concert of it (I saw that at Border's last night too.....), so that's why I ask. Is that DVD a good Joni buy? Is that DVD a good Joni buy? > What are some of the highlights? > -Monika I prefer "S&L" because I enjoy that particular phase of Joni's career more, and the artists she performed with - Pat Metheney, Jaco P, Don Alias, Lyle Mays, Michael Brecker - a dream team if ever there was one. I love the jazzy stuff. She does some live ones from "Mingus." I have to say that when I first heard "Miles of Aisles", I loved it. I hadn't bought it, but my sister had it. This is going back quite a while. For some reason, I never did buy it until a few years ago, around the same time as I bought "S&L". "MOA" is a bit more poppy and it's nice, but I far prefer "S&L". You really should get the DVD too. It's a lot of fun seeing them perform. Jaco is amazing to watch. And Joni has some really cool outfits and shoes. (I think I'm a bit of a shoe-aholic.) She also looks stunning. As far as the "Painting with words and music", you can also buy that as a set with the "Woman of heart and mind" DVD if you don't already have that one, and it's cheaper to buy them together than separately. Not sure if the stores sell them that way or if you'd have to buy from Amazon or some other online store. I hope you got lots of cash for your birthday! Well, a year a half late but i have finally posted my pictures from the fest in France that Laurent organised in August 2005. Some of them are a bit grainy and others are difficult to see owing to the sharp contrast of shadow and light (i'm still a camera with film person so they have been subjected to my dodgy scanning skills too). Follow this link and choose "Garret's Album". Should bring back some nice memories for some. http://www.hatstand.org/gallery/v/JoniMitchell/jonifest2005/ Any Joanna Newsom fans? I'm off to see her this evening. Will report back. GARRET NP- Joni, YTMOIAM ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Apr 2007 11:10:41 -0700 From: "L. Bruce Vaughn" Subject: Re: Miles Of Aisles vs. Shadows And Light Monika, I'm another one who prefers S&L over MOA. The performances on S&L just seem so much more "Joni" than MOA did. I personally think that MOA was done at a time when Joni was "branching out" and wasn't 100% comfortable with it and still exploring collaborative efforts, by S&L she knew exactly where she was musically. You get Walter Brecker, Jaco Pastorius, Lyle Mays, and Pat Metheny all sharing the spotlight with Joni and as the very wise Mr. Muller has already stated if you didn't "get" Mingus or in my opinion some of the tracks from DJRD, you will after seeing this live performance. The only detraction from my point of view on the S&L DVD is that it was "butchered" for some reason. A number of the tracks from the original vinyl issue and HDCD restored CD aren't on the DVD. Whether it was deterioration of the audio/video quality or Joni's choice to delete them, it is what it is, but worth every penny just to see Joni and the Persuasions perform together live on stage to end the show.
