In fact, that was the time I met Joni, and she told me and my friend that we could go to the opening night (which was a few days later) for nothing. As it turned out, the message didn't communicate itself to anyone at the gallery, but we nevertheless managed to blag our way in and saw Joni cavorting with Roger Waters and various other bods, including Julia Fordham, who ended up being produced by Larry Klein. It was indeed a lovely exhibition. By only regret is that the catalogue is only partly in colour, with some of the most beautiful paintings reproduced in drab monochrome. Ah, happy memories... I happened to live there at the time, and just lucked into the show while walking by. I bought a poster of "Chair in the Sky" from the Mingus cover, and it was one of the few Joni things I didn't put up on the raffle...maybe next year? Also, while I was in art school at UC Irvine, one of my professors was invited to contribute to a "Save the Bay" benifit for Santa Monica bay, and I was invited. The premise of the thing was that all of the artists got a surfboard to do their art on, and Joni contributed one. Hers was stuck all over with sand and garbage from the beach, including some "used" prophylactics and tampons. Her "statement" about the issue at hand was much more direct than the other artist's. ~Jill ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Apr 2007 17:56:46 -0400 From: Victor Johnson Subject: Re: QESTION She was reunited with her mother several years ago partially, thanks to the Joni Mitchell Discussion List. Joni? Can you help at all? XOXO Marianne From: Doug Subject: 1960s Songwriting Chronology This is something I've wanted to compile for a few years now. I've somehow overcome my highly developed procrastinatory abilities to get it started. I've listed all known (by me) song titles, both unreleased and released. I would like to find the dates the songs were written, within a few months if possible, drawing from interviews or things said during performances. For example, in the 1968 Broadside interview, she said that Urge For Going developed from August to October 1965. Any other Early Joni fanatics want to add or correct? I got this idea driving home this year. Next Jonifest, I am going to bring my video camcorder and tape a part of the festivities. I will then edit it down and make a Jonifest-umentary! " Monika, Absolutely yes! As a matter of fact, I'll bring my camcorder and be your second camera. My roommate is a professional graphic artist and an x-TV producer, and maybe we can get his help in editing the stuff. For crissakes, he's working for Technicolor right now as a freelance designer. I also think we ought to put together our own Joni Tribute CD (perhaps during the next Jonifest?). There was certainly enough talent in that room to easily fill a CD with beautifully rendered Joni tunes. I'm sure many of the folks that have been to Jonifest for many years now know some very good reasons why these things can't be done, and if so let us know. If not, us crazy newbies are still riding on a monster Jonifest high, and just wish that this stuff could be documented in better ways than what we could do with our still cameras. ~Jill ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2007 #110 ********************************* ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
