Even though I don't know either of them (naturally) I can imagine how Joni must feel. She seems to have been close to her mother as well as having had issues with her so the relationship appears to have been intense for a very long time. Having myself have lost both my parents, a sister and a lover, I have a fairly good idea of what Joni and her family are going through right now, and I only wish she could feel all the warm thoughts of condolence offered here on this list (and to which I hereby add my own). Maybe it would help her knowing so many people feel they share in her loss. I've listened to the radio interview with Myrtle and Bill and was taken by the striking similarity of Myrtle's and Joni's voices. So in a sense Myrtle lives on. RIP, Myrtle. I don't mean to weigh anyone down with my problems but I am so glad that Jonifest is next week. Thank God! This week (and part of last for the first thing) friends ditched me, my car broke down, I got yelled at by my Dad about broadcasting not being a real job and that I needed to get my 4 year degree, and now today I just got fired from my job. And of course Joni's Mom died, and although I don't know her or Joni, it still is awfully sad. I wish all of them well. So let me tell you, Jonifest is the only thing keeping me going man. That....and music in general of course....and some plans I have for this weekend. But it's all so silly on why I got fired but I shall not bore you with the details. More than anything, I am not angry, but I am perturbed by this inconvenience as I was making good money that I was saving (but I had only worked there since December). It was merely a temporary stay as I am looking for a career in broadcasting. - -Monika, Jonifest can't come any sooner ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. In one of the recent articles it is stated that Joni thinks or some people generally think that Joni doesn't get enough due credit due to the fact that she is a woman in a man's world (and really more in particular a female recording artist in a male dominated music world). I mean most of the people who get a good amount of credit are in fact male artists/bands. Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Dylan, Bowie, etc etc. Sure there are a few standout females who have stood out--Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks, etc etc. So do you think this is part of the problem? Are we all just living in a man's world, especially as far as music is concerned? I mean, do you think the fact that Joni is a female automatically turns some guys away (I stress some as there are many males on this list :) ) and doesn't give her as much credit as if she were a male recording artist? Just pondering aloud here....and wondering everyone's opinion. And of course Joni does get some credit but I don't think it's enough man. Atleast not yet. - -Monika ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. I know recently, I've mentioned Joni Mitchell to some friends and they say, "You mean she's still around?" as if she disappeared a long time ago. I think women artists are more prominent these days though rock n roll has certainly been male- dominated for a long time and magazines like Rolling Stone don't really do much to change that. I think it is unfortunate. Personally, I like music because it is good whether or not the artist is male, female, black, white, purple, or blue. If only the whole world were that way.
