I live in Plymouth, Michigan (half way between Detroit and Ann Arbor). I can't make it to Jonifest this year, but I play A LOT of Joni on the guitar and dulcimer. Are there any people out there who live close enough to me to get together for a Joni jam session? My pad is an extremelt groovy place to jam. I have a piano, four acoustic guitars, a lap dulcimer, two amps, and a microphone. Please reply to me offlist so I don't have to go through all of the JMDL emails to find yours. That being said, have any of the rest of you had a dream with Joni on it? I just find dreams so fascinating really. I tend to have dreams with EVERYONE I know in them at some time or another and many, many famous people, especially musicians (including Neil Young, Pink Floyd, Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio, etc etc...dreams are fun!). I have had two Joni related dreams. The first was that I was looking at musician ads and someone was starting a Joni Mitchell tribute band! How cool would that be? The second dream I had, she was actually in. I dreamt that I was hanging out with Joni and Stephen Stills for some reason and I was begging them to come to an open mic night I used to play at. I told them there was some real good music there--they'd meet some good people, and then they could blow them all away. They were both hesitant at first but then agreed to come. That's when the dream ended! So what about you? - -Monika ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. Mort's my car. You see, I had Court & Spark playing in my car and I had Blue along with some other cds in a bag that I was taking to work. Well my car broke down and since I have no cellphone I had to start walking to the next exit to use a phone. I just grabbed my purse, keys, and actually contemplated grabbing my bag with my cds in it before I went. However, I left them there. Good thing is, there are some decent people out there, which on my bad days I doubt there are, haha. A nice woman saw me walking, stopped, and dropped me off at a gas station to use the phone there. Then the gas station lady gave me free coffee, numbers to towing places, and told me to call the police so they wouldn't get my car towed. I just thought that was all very nice. It's such a good surprise when things like that happen. It made my bad, bad weekend not look so bad since I realize there are some good people out there. And it's good my car broke down so it'll be fixed in time for Jonifest! I had been a bit worried about my car and was going to get it checked out soon. I guess it's good timing so it'll be ready for Jonifest! - -Monika P.S. I drove to the shop where my car is right after work to pick up my cds from my car. I'm sorry but I need my music! ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. I had a dream several years ago about a new Joni album. If I recall the timing correctly, it was during the three year gap between Night Ride Home and Turbulent Indigo. The dream was entirely about the album and me experiencing it for the first time. The album was called Comic Strips, and for the album art, Joni drew a comic strip to go along with each of the songs. The dream was very vivid - I remember listening to each of the songs and reading each of the strips during the dream. The album was rather Court and Sparkish, though the lyrics were darker and more satirical. The corresponding strips served as mini story boards for each of the songs and they were rather sophisticated and very funny. I woke up as the album came to an end, and I even remember humming the last song as I laid there in bed. It was such a clear and complete vision of the album, that to this day, whenever a new Joni album was announced, I sort of held my breath in anticipation, fantasizing that it would be titled Comic Strips. I have had many, many Joni dreams over my 38 years of fandom. I used to have a recurring dream of walking through a quaint old town on a cloudy day. I would walk into a musty old record store with wide-plank wood floors and big bins full of used and rare LPs, and I would find Joni albums I had never heard before. Waking up was always heartbreaking. Discovering this list and finding all this unreleased music was sort of a realization of this dream, sans the quaint town. I also once dreamed that I saw Joni in concert and she was naked and very pregnant. - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Deb Messling -^..^- dlmessling@rcn.com http://www.sensibleshoes.vox.com - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2007 21:17:55 -0500 From: Deb Messling Subject: another article I've been having problems with my email all day, so maybe someone has already noted this, but just in case, here's another interview with Joni about the upcoming album and the BBC documentary: http://music.guardian.co.uk/folk/story/0,,2037337,00.html - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Deb Messling -^..^- dlmessling@rcn.com http://www.sensibleshoes.vox.com - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2007 21:26:27 -0700 From: "Randy Remote" Subject: Re: The Club 47 bootleg cleaned up for ya... Hi Brian, Many, many thanks for the Joni DVD. It arrived and played beautifully. It warmed my heart to see so much of Joni. She's not a young girl anymore! Never imagined I'd see her as an old coot, but there she is marching into O'keefe land like a burning tiger. She is still irrascible, still captivating and very much an expressive figure. It is so nice to see her well up with emotion... and I fear she's at much risk in the company of people. She is really a cerebral person who is always reaching for visual imagery and metaphors. She'll use them as a sub for about a dissertation's worth of reflection. People grab onto the glib clip that was merely an attempt to colorfully say 'in the moment', things that would require a conversation to explain. -Hence, much of the flack for the Word interview. She speaks as she thinks. Quirky, emotively, and straight forward to the point of sometimes being defense less. Fun to hear in conversation and a joy to witness set to music. Many would say her 80's music lost the 'big' themes and with them, the essential nature of her relevance. It will be interesting to see if a rant for mother earth is enough to bridge her new recording with her past giants. j. ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2007 #85 ******************************** ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
