I caught a TV clip this after that showed Joni having to struggle to contain her emotions while she spoke. What was Chaka Khan doing to Help Me? Oy. Sherelle, to my ear it was Not. Right. in way too many places. And I LIKE Ms. Khan. Welcome, Thea! I don't post often but I do read all the Joni-only posts because I know if I ever skipped any I'd miss some fascinating tidbit. In fact, it's the only thing about the entire show that didn't impress me at all. She was mumbling and didn't seem to know the words. And I could be mistaken, but she sounded off-key in parts. I don't know enough about Chaka Khan, but I wasn't impressed by her performance. Fortunately Herbie Hancock's piano made up for it. That was fun - we went there after seeing Crosby and Nash at the Troubadour next door! I can't remember all that much about the guy we met, other than that we was a regular and a character! Dan Tana's atmosphere is like hanging with characters on The Sopranos but with a laid back west coast vibe - hahaha! They also defied the smoking ban here for the longest time so I am sure Joni frequented the place for awhile. I also took Shane (old time jmdler from Calgary) there when he came to visit L.A. a few years back. Took a photo of the parking lot and posted a link to it, too! The driveway is somewhat sloped so it is entirely possible to effect an anaconda, so to speak, ahem. The night we were there the actor James Woods came in and was holding court in an adjoining booth. Kakki, just finishing a Gordon's martini with a pepper jack cheese stuffed olive. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Jan 2007 21:59:41 -0700 From: "Les Irvin" Subject: RE: Trivia answer >Now if she meant she was most fond of that band, that's a different story It's been awhile since that conversation and I may have the context mixed up. She may very well have meant that Dog Cheese was the band that she "got along with" the best. I do remember her saying the '79 band had some "ego issues". : - ) Les ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Jan 2007 23:55:46 -0600 From: Michael Paz Subject: Re: Tequla Anaconda Yea I remember the cat being a music producer or something and he was wild. He kept pointing to Joni's "booth" and talking about her as well as dropping many other names. I remember my back teeth floating and feeling a litttle snakey as Kakki and I walked up the hill the other side of the parking lot where we parked.
