That was great! I'm sure Prince was over the moon that she gave a tribute to him. I know Joni loves him, too. I kind of think of Prince as Joni's little brother of whom she is very proud. Every now and then there is some small snippet in the local rags of one of Prince's parties here and occasionally Joni is mentioned as attending. They always do sound amazing. Thanks also for the Laurel Canyon website link. Wow! I have the book but still haven't gotten around to reading it. Argh - why can't we all live in Laurel Canyon and go to Prince's parties? ;-) The other night I had to go over to BevMo to stock up on Thanksgiving beverages. This BevMo is in the mall right across from the gallery where Joni is exhibiting. It was wonderfully surreal to pull out of the parking garage and see the huge two story long "Joni Mitchell" banner draped over the front of the building. We should have some kind of big permanent banner here for her. The video formats, PAL, NTSC and SEACAM refer to the number of pixels on the screen. That's why it it dependent on your screen, rather than your DVD player like region coding. North America uses NTSC whereas, the UK and Australia went with the higher resolution format of PAL. That's why Australian TV shows look like documentaries and Hollywood movies have that Vaseline quality. Most TVs and computer screens these days can handle the PAL resolution these days but, apparently, the United States has banned computer screens and TVs that can display PAL in an effort to further restrict imported video. It has nothing to do with your DVD player. It has to do with your screen. The screen has to be able to accept format or resolution. Most TVs and computer screens these days have the resolution to cope with either format but I have been told that the US government has put in place a ban on screens that allows other formats than NTSC. I don't know if this is true or not. Because PAL is a higher resolution than NTSC, you may get white areas or it won't play at all. Region coding is different. That is a security lock on DVDs. Most people know how to hack their DVD player in order to play them but computer DVD players are a little harder to hack. You may ruin the firmware. A way around that is to use a media player like VLC. It can play any media file - .wmv, mpeg2/4, .avi, .ogg and even DVD format. It totally ignores the region coding. I recommend it to everyone. It comes in Windows and Mac versions. Judie's 1982 album 'Shoot the Moon' has been re-issued and is available from the Tzuke shop. The album has been re-mastered and contains 4 bonus tracks never released on CD before: 'Sold a Rose' (B side of the single 'Love On The Border'), 'Run On Luck' (B side of the single 'I'm Not A Loser'), plus 2 previously unreleased demos: 'I'm Not A Loser', and 'How Do I Feel'. http://www.tzuke.com/shoot.html Due to popularity we are also going to keep the 'Summer Sale' prices for CD's until the 15th of December. Some of you will have noticed the availability of downloading the albums at www.tzuke.com via Safesell. This is a fantastic system giving very high quality downloads. The only issue is that it is based around Windows Media and therefore has compatibility problems with Macs and iPods, because of this we have placed three 'best of' albums and Judie's last album 'The End of the Beginning' onto iTunes and Napster. Also on iTunes you can find a free-to-subscribe podcast showing the development of a fabulous young artist by the name of Bailey Tzuke. If you download iTunes then search for Bailey Tzuke you will find the Bailey Tzuke Video Diary! This does contain some fruity language so may not be for everyone, but it is full of fun and revelations! It also contains a few appearances from the one and only Judie Tzuke, many appearances from Ben Mark and even myself a few times. For those of you who have taken an interest in the hugely talented Ben Mark, he is presently working with Bailey on her forthcoming album, as well as working on his own extraordinarily promising second album. Just to finish I have had a few queries about the out of stock albums, we plan to re-stock before the next tour, which as I mentioned, isn't too far away.
