Don't know if you still update Joni in Fiction, but on Thursday night's episode of "My Name is Earl" they played most of Joni's "Big Yellow Taxi". During a heat wave, Earl (Jason Lee) remembers No. 26 on his list -- "Robbed a Stoner Blind" -- so he and Randy (Ethan Suplee) decide to find said stoner Woody (guest star Christian Slater) and ask for forgiveness. Woody is now living in an eco-friendly commune, and the only way he'll let Earl cross him off the list is if Earl and Randy stay with him on the commune for a week. While Earl is cleaning up the commune, they play BYT. Per Lev (Lev Moross Gallery) Joni's Gallery Showing - Green Flag Song will be reviewed in January 2007 Vanity Fair Magazine http://www.vanityfair.com/ and Venice Magazine http://www.venicemag.com/. Asked my sis-in-law if by chance she lived anywhere near this gallery to pick me up a catalog. Turns out she passes it everyday on her way to work!! She wrote me back that she went there and spoke with the Russian Lev himself. Very friendly and accomodating. Asked her (as others have said) if she'd like the catalog (there was the choice of a $1,000 or the $175 copy....still don't know the difference) autographed as he was going to a meeting with her that afternoon. She's been under the weather, not feeling well, and he would bring mine and a bunch of catalogs to her house to sign. She was to come back Friday (yesterday) to pick up the copies. She told me when she went back on Friday..... three of them in the office and the sis-in-law were all looking for my copy. Lev said he knew she had signed mine (as it had my name on it....whoo hoo!). Of course it was the one at the very bottom of the pile! I'm hoping that means she signed-it first before her hand got tired. But how cool that this catalog was actually at her house.....I imagine her sitting at her kitchen table, drinking cranberry juice, signing this!! Well, I'm excited because I've wanted for years to get an actual autograph (of course would have LOVED to meet her like most of you) but I keep missing my chance. I do have a signed lithograph from the concert a few years back............but the autograph was machined. So, I'm celebrating! Tomorrow is also my son's 13th birthday. He's excited because that's the day the Nintendo Wii is coming out. He calls it Wii Day. Unfortunately I never was able to instill an appreciation of Joni into him. I told him he could inherit this book when I passed or I may be buried with it. He told me I should be buried with it! (haha) Then my sis-in-law took it a step farther when I told her the story.........she said it would probably make headlines that I was being buried with the book and Joni would feel obligated to come see me at the wake. Of course...........I'd have "missed" her again!!! Anyways, sis-in-law saw there were some people that requested paragraphs to be signed in their book..................those Joni wouldn't even sign TO and their name. Just her signature. The people that just requested "TO" and their name......got it.........along with Joni's signature. Now......I have inadvertently spread the news about Joni of which I am proud. Sis-in-law said this worked out good this week since her boss is out of town on business..............she could run around easily back & forth to the Gallery and then the post office to mail it off to me. While she was in the gallery.............the lawyer boss called. Asked how the office was doing and business...........then asked her SO WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOW. Sis-in-law said, "You won't believe this but.................and proceeded to tell her what she was doing for crazy me. Well....boss got all excited and said, "I love Joni Mitchell". She didn't know anything about the gallery showing and plans to go when she gets back from business trip. Also, without getting into too much detail...............sis-in-law is into the online dating thing. One of her suitors she's yet to meet but has been emailing back and forth.......collects art for his home. Sis-in-law told him the story. And he told her he had no idea Joni Mitchell was a painter. So, there ya go.................Joni education continues and this has brought about another visitor to the gallery. So, I had asked sis-in-law to ask Lev when she went back to pick up my catalog (yeahhhh!) if he knew of any reviews coming out about Joni's showing there at the Gallery. So this is how I got the above information. Now, I'm just waiting for the mail to come! Gratefully, Laura (still dreaming of meeting Joni and even having lunch with Joni.....like Kakki! Oh, and I'd pray I'd be as articulate too.....I'd probably be too tongue tied to even eat...........miraculous!) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Nov 2006 09:41:39 -0800 (PST) From: Ingrid Lochrenberg Subject: who will help me My mother refuses to acknowledge that I was adopted (my father has passed away) and my family use my protestations to have me committed to psychiatric establishmenst and institutions. Yesterday, after Luke and Laura got remarried (again ? I dunno), they walked to the idyllic gazebo to At Last (Joni's cover), which continued to be played throughout as the scene shifted back and forth from the reception to the tete a tete. Another tip of the hat to Joni, IMO. ***** Yesiree, Bob! Thanks for sharing that. "At Last". Goosebumps! Joni does that so beautifully. (Beauty is as beauty does.) She wrenches every atomic particle of emotion out of that one with that older smoky wiser voice. Gorgeous, IMO. Has anyone ever listened to that when you were in the throes of "it always seems so righteous at the start, when there's so much laughter, when there's so much spark" a new love that seems like it's the At Last solid love? When you're in the court and spark of those hot hot blazes, before they come down to the sad sad smoke and ash? Just when you're thinking, you've finally got it made? So powerful. Shiver me timbers again, Joni. And Luke and Laura on GH. Memories! Joni TIC: It seems like many dim years ago since I saw them face to face, but right now I can feel them here. I used to watch it a little in high school, and then 28 or so years ago for a bit when I had time on my hands, home alone nursing my newborn....Joni TIC!..... We have a rocking chair, Somedays we rock and stare at the TV, watching GH. I'm getting flashbacks of Luke and Laura and their romance, which for some reason was so compelling. And there was a song (oops....another Joni TIC...Some song some mysterious song Bars in her head Beating frantic and snowblind Romantic and snowblind) that they would play whenever Luke and Laura were together...or *not* together, yearning and longing for each other, unable to consumate their love for whatever soap-opera reason. So Luke and Laura still got it going on? Wow. That's one long romance! I can just imagine how long-time viewers felt watching them with "At Last" playing. Perfect choice. But I can't remember the name of that mysterious song, or even hear it playing in my head. Would your wife know? I think it was haunting. (Oh, dear. It's probably another cheesy moldie oldie -- sorry once again, Lieber Musik Meister, to offend your broader musical sensibility!) I've got to share this email with my best friend Janis (we met in 1975 and instantaneously bonded/spontaneously combusted over Joni....magnet & iron, the Joni souls). She used to watch GH, too. Maybe she'll remember. Thanks, Bob. And tell your wife: "Luke and Laura forever!"
