Maybe she was jogging near a newspaper truck delivering the LA Times when she wrote >I'm always running behind the Times> :) Nah. Seriously, I'd bet $1CND that jogging is contra-indicated for polio survivors. It weakens the spine; Neil Young has a steel rod in his back, if the legend is correct. She is lucky to be walking erect. She gave up the solid body electric guitars because they were literally too heavy. I've heard that swimming is easier on the joints. Jim L. >I know Joni is a swimmer - but does anyone know if she ever was a runner? I know with the smoking and all - probably not. Hi everyone. Les should probably jump in here but the reason for the change is due to copyright issues and maybe bandwidth too. I talked with Les the other day and he told me he was planning to split the sites again. I am partly responsible for the copyright issues and I apologise for any inconvenience caused. Some of my wallpapers caused some grief to Joel Bernstein and removed from the site (remember my series on Hejira?). The wallpapers are now available on the JMDL site (not the Hejira ones). Bene, I imagine the reason for the staff members appearing on both sites is because Les hasn't divided it up yet. I guess my name for example will eventually only appear on jmdl.com because that's where my section is now. BTW I love the look of both sites. There is a theme carrying through and that appeals to me. Keep checking back to the wallpapers. They are always being added to. Feedback is also welcome on the list. You can still submit your wallpapers the same way - by clicking on my e-mail link. I would love to know what people think of my latest wallpaper for Holy War. I saw her six times, but that Montreal concert was something else. I don't have time to tell you about it right now (porous with Election Day Eve fever), but I do have to say that, in quickly clicking through the new site (Kudos Les and company -- it's beautiful!), I went to the appearances page and lo and behold, there was an article about that concert at Place des Nations (August 4, 1974)! I have never been able to confirm that that concert actually happened. I thought maybe it was just a dream I had! Did the old page have links to articles about appearances? If so, I never saw that feature before. So, that was a big thrill for me today. But one picture with that article was NOT what Joni was wearing. I remember THAT well, because I actually have three pictures of Joni from that concert, taken w/ my Canon FTB and a telephoto lens. They're not the best quality, but I'd be happy to send them to you, Les, if you could put them up somewhere. There's one of Joni at the piano, and two of her singing, one w/ Tom Scott next to her. She is wearing whitish jeans and an apricot/peachy-colored top. Just give me some. I feel like I'm losing mine! I didn't know Evan was also a student of Dave's! And as mentioned, another student, 14 year old Brittney, sang Circle Game in the finale. Gawd, hearing both of them all I could think was, argh! why didn't I have such a wonderful music coach back in the day? I never saw such talent at their age back then nor did I see such effects of good tutelage. Dave has some really amazing mojo, that is all I can say. Maybe when I can retire, Dave can coach me, too! And J, every time I see your name posted I mentally transpose it to Kendall-Jackson which is a major winery out here in Calif. ;-) Here is their website link . http://www.kj.com/home.asp Kakki ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Nov 2006 23:24:54 -0500 (EST) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: JMDL.com has been revived - --- "Jim L'Hommedieu, Lama" wrote: > http://www.jmdl.com/ > > In the News section of he mother ship, > www.jonimitchell.com Les Irvin said > in part, > >Also, JMDL.com has been revived, and most of its > content removed from > JoniMitchell.com. Yes, Kate. I agree. In an April 1997 interview, Joni says: "I didn't have a penny. I had no money for diapers, or a room to take her to. There was no career on the horizon". She also indicates that Kilauren's pre-birth days were very much the same. That's one of the reasons i also started thinking that the window shopping in the rain lyric was more about being unable to buy things and simply staring at all the pretty things she couldn't afford. We often think about dark moods in Joni's lyrics as romantic heartbreaks and other love pains and sad relationship issues as if the only pain in one's life is caused by love. And yes, in many songs that's the case and it's that "rich peoples' troubles" thing as Joni calls it, but sometimes it's not love caused misery that she's singing about, though i wouldn't mind living in a world where the only problems were caused by ex-lovers and rainy mondays.
