Firstly, thank you to Bob for another fine effort. I so look forward to your covers packages. It seems that it's the only way I get to hear about any Aussie folk acts. Not meaning to steal your thunder, I have my own gift to you all. After several months in the making, I have finally packaged up our own Danilo's fine efforts via youtube. He has had some very favourable comments on his videos and a growing number of fans. Word is getting out about this guy's talents. Danilo has covered a huge chunk of Joni's back catalogue now and I have been extracting the audio. It has now grown into a double CD and I have designed a CD cover for it. I only wish I had the means to get it released on the open market. In the meantime, Danilo has given me permission to make it available for the JMDL. The album is titled, "Danilo - For Free; The Songs of Joni Mitchell". You can download part one along with the CD cover here: http://www.yousendit.com/download/25nDOuwAQa8%3D You can download part two here: http://www.yousendit.com/download/25lMtd9nkY8%3D I would love to read your feedback about this recording. I'm sure Danilo would too. The standout tracks for me are; No Apologies, Woodstock (MOA arrangement), Electricity, Don Juan's Reckless Daughter, For The Roses, Cherokee Louise, The Boho Dance and his beautiful slow arrangement of Black Crow. Enjoy. Mark in Sydney NP Black Crow - Danilo ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Nov 2006 22:22:46 +1100 From: Mark-Leon Thorne Subject: Re: In Search of Joni in Saskatoon Hi Mike. I've been enjoying Danilo's covers as they've come out (just listened to DJRD yesterday); and sometimes (as I'm sure you know) his soft falsetto sounds just like Joni. His guitar work is exquisite as well. Looking forward to getting this collection - thanks for the efforts, and don't worry about me - I'll come thundering back. Nash's Northern California itinerary begins Wed., November 1 as he joins former President Bill Clinton, Democratic Leader of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi and Congressman & DCCC Chairman Rahm Emmanuel for a 6PM event at S.F.'s historic Warfield Theatre. In an effort to win back the House through the Nov. 7 mid-term elections, the event will benefit the progressive Democratic congressional candidates who oppose the Iraq War. At 7PM on Nov. 2, Nash and Holbert will also attend a second reception -- open to the public -- at 222 2nd Street in downtown Chico, adjacent to Butte's 2nd Street Digital Outdoor Gallery. In addition to the eight images on view in Oroville -- including portraits of David Crosby, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Nash's self-portrait from the book cover of Eye To Eye -- five more will be on display outside at the 2nd Street Gallery, and seventeen more will be hung inside the reception space. For more information, contact Prof. Wickes' office at 530-895-2975. Originally published in hardcover in 2004, the book Eye to Eye: Photographs by Graham Nash will be released as a softcover edition in Spring 2007 by Five Ties Publishing. http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/news_press_release,14456.shtml Laura ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 02 Nov 2006 16:08:31 +0000 From: "c Karma" Subject: The Morrissey interview Hold on! My BS detector is ringing. Morrisey said, regarding the similiarity of Rickie Lee Jones debut album cover photo: "That's funny and so true. I remember when i first saw Rickie's sleeve, i was a teenager, maybe even younger, and the first thing i thought about was: That's her! That's Joni's missing daughter! And i was like - Doesn't ANYONE see it's HER?" I don't want to call him a sycophant, but Morrisey couldn't possibly have known about Kilauren's existence when he was a teenager even if inner music circles had the buzz. And it's doubtful that he had access to that type of vibe as a pre-teen. Joni carefully guarded that secret on Kilauren's behalf until the early 90s when she began her search, ultimately aided by Wally Breese. She never did comment on mine but she did write a post in repsonse to something I said in her comments (She was saying that money doesn't make you any happier and I said a resounding 'bullshit' to that and said something about how it would be nice not to have a second job in order to pay off $30,000 of student loans since this cuts into time with kids, family commitments, etc. and therefore life would be a hell of a lot happier if I could pay that off sooner rather than later" and she said something to the tune of true enough, blah blah blah. Then, I once posted to the "Ask Ro" thing on Rosie's blog what three Joni songs she would take with her on a deserted island, and she replied back right away - hmmmm, of course, I can't remember what they were now - I think they were al l TI selections. For those of you who are blog-obsessed, Melissa Etheridge's wife has her own too which is a good read. Now if only we could get Rosanne Cash to blog - she does her "Mrs. L's monthly letter" but she'd be fun to read on a daily basis. Anyway, Rosie is Joni obsessed, so I have no doubt she'll find some way to raise Joni's profile.
