["Jim L'Hommedieu, Lama" Joseph, I've read that youtube has become the most popular site on the web, and it's not hard to believe. Given the way that one video leads to another and also their excellent search engine and it can be very addictive for sure. I loved the "chipmunk" video - the guy's eyes are classic. The Green Day version is likely rooted in the BYT cover that Billie Joe Armstrong did with his earlier band Pinhead Gunpowder. They sound just like Green Day, I like it muchly. Yes, he is not bad. More like singing to himself that for an audience. There is a fragile quality to it that works well in rainy days and early early mornings. Do you include this type of thing in the Covers? After all they are covers of Joni songs. Or is there a separate category for them? Might be interesting to see how many of these amateur singers will figure prominently in the future's music scene. This post is acronym-free, in deference to my esteemed colleague from the great province of Ontario. Joni sang, >I am a lonely painter >I live in a box of paints >I'm frightened by the devil >And I'm drawn to those ones that ain't afraid First "lonely", then "frightened", then "afraid". She's restating fear for clarity, I guess. She fits lots of different emotions in that song. - ------------------- He's steady (northern star), but she's sarcastic. (Where's that at?) She's withdrawn to draw (a map of Canada) and reflects on the mess (your face sketched on it twice**) with devotion (Oh you're in my blood like holy wine) and repulsion, simultaneously (You taste so bitter) and ultimately she's conflicted. (and so sweet) She's very conflicted. (Still I'd be on my feet) Very conflicted indeed. (oh I would still be on my feet) As if in a diary she's portrays herself (lonely painter) as very withdrawn (box of paints) and frightened. (by the devil) Only risking exploration (I'm drawn to) when spying a fearless guide is around (those ones that ain't afraid) - ------------------- Sarcastic, withdrawn, reflective, devoted, repulsed, conflicted, conflicted, conflicted, lonely, withdrawn, frightened. What a mess! In comparison to Joni, Fiona Apple seems calm and collected. Lastly, the official lyric is apparently: >I remember that time you told me you said >"Love is touching souls" >Surely you touched mine >'Cause part of you pours out of me >In these lines from time to time `Closer to the truth to say`, >I remember that time you told me, you said, "Love is touching souls. Surely you touched mine," ran his lines, from time to time.> *She* doesn't say, "surely you touched mine" b/c she's conflicted.
