Sure, they have contributed much over the years, in terms of donating and appearing at benefits an such. But it's pretty well known that CSN on their own could never command such a payday without Neil. Stills isn't much of a singer anymore - in fact Crosby is the only one with a great voice at this stage in their lives (all the more amazing considering how he ravaged his body all those years). You are paying for the "brand name" - - CSNY. > The venue itself makes a difference - I don't know about this... At a huge place like Madison Square Garden, they should be able to charge less, because of the greater capacity. Hey, Springsteen just toured with a 17 piece band and the tickets were $50-ish and $100. Here's a little story - Last year, the arts presenter that I work for was trying to book CSN. Their asking price was very steep and we were going to have to charge $115 per ticket (for every seat in the venue) to pay their guarantee. This was $40 more than we had ever charged for any artist, but were willing to do it to have them appear at our theater. The negotiations were basically finalized, and the agent came back at the last minute and said, "Can't you make it $125?" . This was unacceptable for my boss and our audience, so they passed. I fully realize that they have expenses and crew and trucks and all, but an average price of $200 a ticket is just greedy. Peace and love is all well and good, but they want to get as much as the market will bear, as this may be the last time they go out together. Thirty years after that album was released,it still stands as a high artistic watermark of the singer-songwriter movement. Its greatness owes almost as much to its sound as to its literary content. The dialogue between Ms. Mitchell's agitated rythm guitar and the responsive electric bass of Jaco Pastorius creates a spontaneous, erotically charged give and take between a woman and man(or between the singer's feelings and thoughts) as she flees a failed relationship by going on the road alone. These sprawling internal monolouges, crammed with rich poetic detail, reflect on love, death, change and personal choice with candor and depth that remain unsurpassesd among singer-songwriters." Thanks to my many friends here onlist I know that feeling of finding something rare like this. you said you have the audio of the concert. Did Joni sing on any other songs? Another thing about the performance, to me, is seeing it in relation to the Last Waltz version. The sound quality isn't as good, of course, but I like Joni's performance here better. I am so very sorry that you lost your best friend. I'll never forget coming to NO for the first time and the afternoon I spent with Jack the boot on his limo, the afternoon coffee at Madeleine's, the deluxe sightseeing tour through tonw. What a sense of humor, what a gentle and generous man. I had just talked to Christina (Fries-Nielson) about Jack and we were both so thrilled about the Arlo thing. Jack also emailed me a few months back about gig leads for Europe. He said he was going to be in France, which I thought was going to be right about now. So, yes what a shock to read he's taken a different kind of trip. I am sure where ever he goes he will continue his music, delight with his voice and his songs. I truly feel blessed that I know his music and wish he would have had the chance to make many more CD, and do all the things he hoped and dreamed about. His songs and voice are wonderful and I was very hopeful that the Arlo thing would be a real kick for his exposure to a wider audience. I am truly sad I'll never see him again in this part of my lifetime. Maybe in some other paralell universe we all hang out together again. Strange to realize how quickly we can part from this earthly existence. I hope he's jammin' with the best of them now! Much love and strenght to you and to Jack's family!!!
