An Education in Designer Handbags The Joni Bag by Designer Luella Bartley (approx $1,295.00).........inspired by Joni Mitchell This is news to me..........so thought I'd share. Ah, something new to save my $$$ for to add to my "all things Joni" collection. Donations accepted (tee hee) "........... Designer Luella Bartley, whose Luella label has produced some of the best-selling it-bags of the past five years, discovered the selling power of this connection when one of her creations for Mulberry made its catwalk debut on the arm of supermodel Gisele Bundchen at the autumn/winter 2002 show. 'That was an accident,' Bartley admits. 'The press went ballistic and the bag became known as the Gisele - I didn't plan it. I actually had to write to her and apologise, explain I wasn't using her name, it just happened. Though I think if I were a model, I'd be quite pleased to have a bag named after me.' The celebrity connection is as hard to unravel as the idea that women want to be friends with their handbag. Pictures of a skeletal Victoria Beckham dolled up in hot pants at the World Cup provoked opprobrium both for the outfit and her weight, but everyone also clocked the rather nice Hermes Birkin - perhaps because it looked more substantial than she did. We may no longer care about Sienna Miller's rather wobbly career; and if we never hear about her relationship with Jude Law again, it'll be too soon. But we still want to know what bag she's carrying. Our fascination with it-bags is more powerful than our disapproval of any celebrity's lifestyle, weight or love life. It's a difficult relationship to understand and it's also difficult for designers to control. As Bartley says: 'Certain people are inspiring - we've had a lot of press with our Joni bag which was named after Joni Mitchell, because she's a legend - but the celebrity thing is weird." - read the entire article here under MAMA'S GOT A BRAND NEW BAG http://observer.guardian.co.uk/magazine/story/0,,1824169,00.html It's a "hot" bag according to THE BAG LADY website......here's a quote when describing a similar bag called the Mulberry Phoebe, "Apparently, the 'Phoebe' is the Mulberry bag du jour. The truth is, it's only the Mulberry bag du jour if you can't get your hands on a 'Joni' (who can?), but it's still a gorgeous little number which, amazingly, doesn't just look like every other designer bag on the market. A chic combo of saddle bag and shoulder bag, it's boho chic reinvented for the new season." And when describing the Mulberry Tooled Bayswater, "Everyone else might still be swooning over the Roxanne, its baby sister the Blenheim and the new must-have Joni, but I'm in love with this re-working of the fashion editor's classic." For those interested here's some pictures of the Joni Bag Neiman Marcus shows it onsale for $697.00 (red color) however the item is NOT AVAILABLE http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?cmCat=search&itemId= prod27560013 or Caramel and/or Black http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?cmCat=search&itemId= prod27560020 Gold Description reads: "The fact that this bag is named after Joni Mitchell makes it the ultimate rock n roll bag. Thank you so much for pointing this one out to us. I liked the change from girl with a guitar to The fuller sound of "A Surfer Courted Me" the piano on "Kinvarna". It sounded like a mandolin plucking on "Corporation" and I found myself really listening and enjoying the sounds. Thanks again, what a treasure. This person I can tell was very close to you. My heart aches for your loss and this is a time when you need your friends around you. You always find a way Paz...that is what I admire about you my friend...you always find a way. This time, you need a little support and we're here for you. One day at a time my friend...my prayers are with you and with Jack's family. I had a chance to listen to Hello Old Friend and it is absolutlely beautiful. I have no explanation for his leaving. I am just so sorry that he's gone because of how you feel about him. Take care and know that I won't be far away my friend. It's time for me to stand in for you and help keep you strong. Love, Sherelle Paz wrote: Just got home from HOB seeing Michael Franks. Got a phone call from my friend Roger Wilson that I wish I never got. My best friend in life has checked out. My heart is so broken. I thought I had death figured out after this fucked up year of losing my daddy and my brother and... Jack was such a tender generous spirit and such a wonderful singer and songwriter not to mention guitar player. He called me day before yesterday and left me a message that said, "hey it's me, Jack, you remember me, we used to work together back in the early 2000's. I am ready to record an EP, maybe 6 songs." I was elated. I had been bugging him since the CD release party of "Here I go Again" when I was ready to record the next one. And he had a ton on new songs. The Arlo and Friends Tour was a milestone in his life and he never stopped thanking me for getting him on the tour. I am dreading calling Arlo tomorrow to tell him that he is gone. I don't know how I am going to act now. I have no one calling me 10 times a day telling me all kind of crazy shit. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Jul 2006 18:06:15 -0500 From: Michael Paz Subject: Thanks to everyone Thanks so much to everyone for all your letters and calls. My heart is full of your love. I got up the nerve a while ago to call Arlo and tell him of Jack's passing and of course got his vox mail. I then called Gordon Titcomb, the pedal steel-mandolin-guitar player from Arlo's band and he told me that they had heard the news last night before their gig in Boone, North Carolina. Gordon said Arlo looked like someone had kicked him when they told him. He dedicated St. James Infirmary to him which is very appropriate I think. Jack's mom called me and thanked me for all that I have done for Jack the past few years. She said that he had the happiest year of his career because of it. I met his sister Margaret (Goppy) and gave her a ton of pics of him from my collection. She said the family wants me to be a pall bearer at the funeral. While I am deeply honored it made me laugh to myself that I knew I'd have to carry his fat ass one more time. That's the news for now. Funny how we feel some kinship with those we've met who share our passion for something (in this case, music... especially Joni's music). Allow me to offer my condolences to those closest to Jack, like Michael, as I know what it's like to lose a good friend. Chris mentioned finding a glass of "something suitable" to raise in honor of Jack. Odd, but when I lost a good friend many years ago, I just sat and cried for a while; then, I quietly walked over & got my favorite special sipping glass, poured myself a Scotch, and raised it to his memory. Sad to say, it's been a kind of ritual several times since, but that's... life.
