It's one of my favourite covers now. He obviously loves the genre of jazz but, moreover, he puts real feeling into this song. Apart from his obvious respect for Joni's writing, he possibly related to the subject matter of this particular song. What other songs of Joni's would George Michael do justice to? Same Situation comes to mind. I think That Song About The Midway would resonate to George's past. How about, A Strange Boy? As for what other Joni's he could do, I think he's got a great blue-eyed soul voice and would do justice to just about any of them. Bob NP: Marc Jordan, "Release Yourself" Tired of spam? Yahoo! Yeah, but was it worth the ridiculously expensive ticket price? At the Concord Pavillion, the entire lower sections, thousands of seats, are $201 a piece. It's crazy!!! The music may be great but they are in it for the money, plain and simple. Gus ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Jul 2006 01:29:26 -0500 From: Michael Paz Subject: Jack Neilson Just got home from HOB seeing Michael Franks. Got a phone call from my friend Roger Wilson that I wish I never got. My best friend in life has checked out. My heart is so broken. I thought I had death figured out after this fucked up year of losing my daddy and my brother and... Jack was such a tender generous spirit and such a wonderful singer and songwriter not to mention guitar player. He called me day before yesterday and left me a message that said, "hey it's me, Jack, you remember me, we used to work together back in the early 2000's. I am ready to record an EP, maybe 6 songs." I was elated. I had been bugging him since the CD release party of "Here I go Again" when I was ready to record the next one. And he had a ton on new songs. The Arlo and Friends Tour was a milestone in his life and he never stopped thanking me for getting him on the tour. I am dreading calling Arlo tomorrow to tell him that he is gone. I don't know how I am going to act now. I have no one calling me 10 times a day telling me all kind of crazy shit. If I died tomorrow my proudest accomplishment would be the production of his album. It was such a joy to work on it with him here in this room I am sitting in now. The song My Old Friend was born in this room and I remember the tears that flowed when I heard those lyrics and how I felt hearing Hello my old friend It's good to see you again I missed your point of view come on over to my house tonight maybe we'll knock down a few Till we get it right Passes so quickly Like it was all yesterday And I know you'd look the same Such a wonder But it ain't no crying shame Cause we made the best go far Ba Bye Whenever I see your face It brings me back to that place Only best friends know I don't know when it happened to me That part became history With a family of my own Such a wonder But it ain't no crying shame You that were making the best go We made the best go far Ba Bye I know you gotta get back to Little ones waiting for you Give 'em a hug for me When they all have to go their own way Hope they find a friend one day Just like you and me But it ain't no crying shame You that were making the best go We made the best go far Ba Bye Ba Bye Hello my old friend It's good to see you again It's good to see you again It's good to see you again I fear for how my children are going to react to this loss. In a way he was close to us than my daddy. Only because he was her for a year and a half while we hacked out the record in our spare time. Julian use to lay under the console digging just being there. And I remember asking everyone in the house to be quiet and not flush toilets and stuff so we could get a good take on a track. He used to take the kids to the movie store in the limo to pick up a movie or take us all out for a ride to the French Quarter or to a concert. He went with me to see NickleCreek a few months ago and we sat in the balcony in the VIP section at HOB and cried together at the beauty of their music. Another time I got a gig being Michael Franks' tour manager for a day (while his regular guy was completing another obligation to Sarah McLauglin's Lilith Fair Tour, and Jack came and helped me out with transport for Mike and the band in the limo. Always a generous soul. I could continue writing for days. I don't want to go to sleep. I am afraid. I am suddenly really alone (even tho I have so much love around me). If you have never heard Jack. PLEASE check him out at http://www.cdbaby.com/jackneilson Pick up the record and we will get the money to his child who is challanged with CP as well as being alone in college I have several more recordings of him (outtakes) as well as stuff from the Arlo tour and I hope to release another record to help out Sara. The memorial will be next week on Weds. If any of you can be here it would be great. Sorry to lay all this on you guys.
