Just thought I would second Simon's suggestion, but perhaps less politely than he did. If this thing got published after all of Bernstein's time and effort without his knowledge, consent, etc. and is not corrected, I think the message to Alfred should be that the whole list will boycott its sale until it is recalled and corrected. I realize this is probably not so simple (a boycott might be economically detrimental to Joni and Joel, contractual rights may be on the side of one or both publishers, etc.). But this feels to me (at this point, at least) like a time to stand on principle. I guess what I'm saying is that a JMDL boycott of anything is going to have all the impact of a spit in the ocean; does anyone even think that the publisher gives a damn that the songbook is erroneous? They bought the rights to some property and they're trying to make money off of it - where does quality enter into the picture? I'm not saying that Alfred Publishing is in the right, I wish the songbook was more complete & correct and up to the desired standards. I'm just saying that what's done is done. On the other hand, the transcriptions and tabs at http://www.jonimitchell.com/guitar/ Seem pretty damn good to me. I do think that the publication of the book without the final approval of the book's author is unethical. If I were Joel, I'd be looking at my contract carefully.
