[Smurf Subject: New Joni Songbook This looks like the book Joel Bernstein has been working on for years, different from the earlier 'Complete.' Go to Amazon.com, where you'll find this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0739042114/ref=nosim/002-5263840-3890424?camp=2025&dev-t=D26XECQVNV6NDQ&link%5Fcode=xm2&n=283155 - -------------------- Book Description For the first time, a complete edition featuring 157 songs from Joni Mitchell's 17 original studio releases. All songs feature correct tuning information (for Joni's 50 guitar tunings) and correct guitar chord fingerings--all provided direct from Joni's musical archivist, Joel Bernstein. In addition the book contains a complete analysis of Joni's ground-breaking guitar style and for the first time ever, a complete tuning index that shows how Joni's intricate tunings have evolved over the years, and how various songs are related by tuning type. Includes tablature. 157 songs from 17 albums: Joni Mitchell; Clouds; Ladies of the Canyon; Blue; For the Roses; Court and Spark; Hissing of Summer Lawns; Hejira; Don Juan's Reckless Daughter; Mingus; Wild Things Run Fast; Dog Eat Dog; Chalk Mark in a Rainstorm; Night Ride Home; Turbulent Indigo; Hits; and Taming the Tiger - ------------------- According to Amazon, the book was released June 19. I haven't seen it yet on Amazon.ca or ChaptersIndigo.ca. And 464 pages is huge! It looks like every guitar song Joni released will be included. This is very exciting. I hope not just another 'false alarm.' The price actually sounds (dare I say it?) too cheap for a book of that size (even when you convert from USD). they don't have a picture or other info. I'd order one to see what happens, but I'm too broke at the moment. If you do a google search on the name as written, nothing comes up. It would be SO COOL if that promised book ever came out. It cost $59.95 Cdn. It contains an article by Jeffrey Pepper Rogers from Acoustic Guitar (1996) plus a bunch of articles on how to read the tabs. The scope is huge: every guitar song she ever recorded plus several piano songs that have been transcribed for guitar (including Two Grey Rooms, Chinese Cafe and lots more). One oddity I've seen so far: for some reason the first 32 pages of the book are printed on a slightly off-white paper while the rest of the book is on brite white. Transcription credits go to Joel Bernstein and Daniel Libertino. I know what I'll be doing in my spare time for the next couple of weeks: trying all the songs to finally find those mysterious 'lost' chords I couldn't figure out by myself Jim ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Jul 2006 20:35:39 -0400 (EDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: New Joni Songbook Whoo-hoo! Song and Script is right up the street from where I work - even closer to where I'm going to be living in about two weeks. I love that store - they often have the stuff that no one else has. What happened to the fact that the loony is worth a lot more than it used to in USD though? It should probably cost less than $50. (temporary sour grapes - I'm gonna buy it anyway.) Let us know how it goes. I probably won't be able to get one for at least another couple of weeks. I've always had problems dealing with reading tab, but that's mostly laziness on my part. I'm too used to reading notes and chord charts. Does it have any piano bits in it (that is, real piano bits and not piano-to-guitar bits)? - --- James Leahy wrote: > Well, I guess the rumours are for real this time -- > I picked up 'Joni > Mitchell Complete' today at Song and Script on Bay > Street here in Toronto. > It cost $59.95 Cdn. Cosmic Occurance, dudes: So, I'm downloading this clip, and I accidently return to the previous email....oops!....I get back to the video of Joni singing California, with 2 voices overlayed about 8 seconds apart. I decided to listen to the curious layering, and she'd get close to synchronizing every once in a while. THEN both voices came into a glorious unity as she sang the word HOME ! Truly a "oh, wait till I tell the folks on the list!" moment. ok....I'll stop.
