I have just uploaded a new wallpaper. This one is for the song, Good Friends. It has always been my favourite song from Dog Eat Dog. Sometimes I think it almost redeems the album for me. The inclusion of Michael McDonald seals it for me too. I would have loved Joni to work more with him. Even, possibly with Steely Dan too. I hope you all like it. Mark in Sydney "Synchronized like magic. Good friends, you and me." ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 May 2006 09:08:32 -0400 (EDT) From: "Gerald A. Notaro" Subject: Ronee Just got Ronee Blakley's two cd's that were resissued for Collector's Choice. Much better albums than I would have thought. And my most recent FolkWax e-zine had an interesting review with some Joni content: "Bluebird" features a backing vocal by, the then about to become famous, Linda Ronstadt (Ronstadt's Peter Asher-produced, breakthrough album, Heart Like A Wheel, appeared in 1974), while thematically the lyric can be summed up as a hobo's road song. The spectre of Joni Mitchell and the approach to acoustic music that pervaded the Canadian's 1968 debut album, Song To A Seagull aka I Came To the City/Out Of The City And Down To The Seaside, comes to mind during the album's closing song "Graduation Tune." Once more accompanying herself on piano and supported by string players, at the close of each verse Blakley relates that she is "Orbiting my own space," while the main theme is that of the "crossroads" we have to negotiate during our time on Earth. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 May 2006 23:14:36 +1000 From: Mark-Leon Thorne Subject: The Remix Project Finally Sees The Light of Day Hi Folks. As you may recall, I have been calling for contributions for a Joni remix compilation for some time now. Although there have been some great contributions, nothing has come through my e-mail inbox for some time so, I have decided to put it out there as is. I could have squeezed a couple more tracks on but, until I find any more mixes or learn to use Audacity properly, here it is. To download part one, go here: http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php? action=download&ufid=307920A24D498D66 Part two will follow shortly. Part one also includes a CD cover for you to use if you wish. If you come across any remixes, extended versions or mash-ups, please let me know. There may be a second edition if I get enough tracks. Thanks to all those who contributed. Enjoy. Anyway, I just wanted to mention that WFUV (member-supported radio from Fordham University in the Bronx) recently held their spring fund drive and, as part of it, asked listeners to send in their five "essential songs"; obviously, songs you consider extra special (can't live without, etc.) along with your reasons for the choices. They then compiled the results and listed the top 90 "Essential Songs", according to the votes. I sent in five (from five different artists) and, although my favorite Joni tune (Down To You), didn't make the list, four other Joni songs DID: number 16. A Case Of You; 21. All I Want; 35. River; 62. Carey. Not a bad showing, eh? Incidently, two of my other choices also made the list: 25. Jungleland (Bruce) and 46. For A Dancer (Jackson Browne). If you're interested in seeing the entire list, just go to their website at WFUV.org. BTW, the entire 90 songs were mixed into regular airplay during the week-long fund-drive. They also had selected listeners speak on air about their choices, to introduce each song, and I was contacted (by email) to do a blurb about For A Dancer. Unfortunately, I was away at the time and by the time I returned and responded, it was too late. I do like your sense of humour, Richard. Yes, I do have a Mac. OSX 10.3.9. PowerMac G5. Sorry about the useless file. I've seen it before but it wasn't there when I uploaded. I guess it was just hidden. Anyway, I'm glad the files play for you Windows users. I just have one request for any Windows users uploading media files. PLEASE don't send .wma files. They are poison to Mac users. I do have a program to convert them but it doesn't always work. I sometimes have to use Windows computers at work - you'd never get a hospital to use a Mac. It's like stepping back in time when I use it. The graphics are awful. I was surprised to see that one government department now using Macs. The NSW Roads and Traffic Authority now have Macs at the counters of all their branches. Albeit, they are the old dome shaped iMacs. If you haven't guessed, I am completely Mac-centric.
