I haven't heard that much Beatles on CD, but I would venture that the White Album, if no other, is in great need of remastering, equalising and whatever else can be done. I borrowed it from a friend a few years ago, and remember finding the sound quality horrible, especially on the quieter songs. When taping a couple of songs, I had to crank the recording level way, way up for Julia (incidentally, I think this is Lennon's loveliest song of all), with resultant massive tape hiss. Given that the entire back-catalogue has always been at full price, with no doubling up on the shorter albums, and is a guaranteed cash cow, I don't think it's too much to ask that some time and effort be put in to get something that sounds good. Thanks for the update on that, Jim - sorry to hear that the track didn't make it, for whatever reason. Makes me even more afraid that the possible bonuses on the upcoming reissues will be a bunch of jpegs of paintings. Joni has given to me more than any friend could hope for. She is a friend of the heart. I've never seen her perform live but you know Marianne, I'm not upset about that. I feel so rich already. There are very few artists whose music can touch the heart like hers does. If she never sings or performs again, she already given me that gift. I just clicked on one at random, it ended up being the S&L San Francisco show from Sep 08 1979. Then I scanned it all and played the "Off The Record", and now I'm playing a Springsteen show just to mix it up a bit. I would imagine that if you've not heard any of this Joni stuff it's really revelation time. Glad I was able to turn y'all on to it. Not to rain on anyone's parade, but these streams will not sound as good as lossless audio version that are uncompressed. (Meaning also that they have never been through an .mp3 generation.) Nevertheless, enjoy. And let's hope that things like the Hissing demos will be sourced from the masters when they appear on the expanded CDs! - -----Original Message----- From: owner-joni@smoe.org [mailto:owner-joni@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Deb Messling Sent: Thursday, April 20, 2006 11:56 AM To: Bob.Muller@Fluor.com Cc: joni@smoe.org Subject: Re: LOTS of live Joni at your fingertips! >Wow!! Oh boy have you indeed!:) It's just now (that i listen to the HOSL demos) that i see that the demo for Sweet Bird is the one i know from the album. I love it when demos are included in an album. Shows the artist has guts. But let's face it - Joni's demos are better than most artists studio recordings. Nuri - --------------------------------- Celebrate Earth Day everyday!
