Anyway, if there's one thing i've learned here, is to respect every opinion about Joni, and yes, i know, mine are sometimes harder to respect and swallow. In a way i'm just like Don Freed who simply didn't think that Joan is a lady. Take care, Nuri - --------------------------------- Yahoo! Messenger with Voice. By the same token, a lot of my faves are from folks that I'd never heard of. Always best to listen without prejudice and let your own ears be the judge. Thus, you've got Fairport Convention doing Eastern Rain, Chelsea Morning, Both Sides Now, etc as well as The Foggy Dew-O doing, Born To Take The Highway, Ian Campbell doing Dr. Junk & Circle Game, and so on. They may not have known Joni at the time, but they certainly knew good songs when they heard them. I'm not sure if Joni and the members of Fairport Convention spent any amount of time together while she was over there, if they saw her performances or vice versa. She was only on that side of the pond for about a month. Ian Matthews would go from Fairport to form Matthews' Southern Comfort and have a big hit with their version of Woodstock. Hi Marianne, Maybe she was just doing as she does. Why? because she did... that's all. She might not have had a motive per se. Do we always need a motive? Or is this like asking, why do the seasons go round and round? Some things just are and painting them is what some people do. Shadows and light... not all one nor all the other. She paints what she sees, hears, feels, etc. That's what I love about her. I can assure you I will. A lot of it for me gets down to that one word: time. I really can't give 100 versions of "Both Sides Now" a good fair hearing. Maybe in another life time .... Anyway, I'm sure you know how much your efforts are appreciated, even by those of us who need to pick and choose. Just knowing that there are 70-some volumes of Joni covers (and counting) is pretty cool.
