Em ps sorry << Subject: Re: Post Hejira faves -- the Chieftains I think sometimes this often goes unknown by Jonilistas, but the version of "The Magdalene Laundries" that Joni does with the Chieftains is sublime. It's on a CD ("Bood in the Stone"?) that they did with some of their favorite female performers, so it includes Bonnie Raitt, Sinead O'Connor, and other greats. I think it's well worth purchasing, and I have little tolerance for Irish music. Oh yeah, happy St. Patrick's Day. May your day be just a little green! Here's a fun fact: St. Patrick was Welsh, just like Mike from Barcelona, only born 1700 years earlier. --O'Smurf PS: Lyrics from Black 47's "Different Drummer": I was born on a black Monday Me mother screams and curses Me auld lad out in a pub Losing money on the horses Me granny breaks down the door Screams get a job ya bastard And I come rolling into the world A walking, talking disaster! My wife has always been the Mariah fan, so we had all of her albums, and I mocked Mariah from day one, but you know, she has an awesome voice, and while I am not really a big fan of the ballads really, songs like "Fantasy", "Dreamlover" and all the rest I reallly, really, enjoy. And, the last album is very good. I am always singing "We Belong Together" for hours in my head whenever I hear it. Now, I say "not suprisingly", because those who remember 6 or 7 years ago, I was going on and on about how wonderful Hole was, and of course I defended DED until I was blue in the face, so I am sure people would take my opinion with a grain of salt. However, I am fine that Mariah is just Mariah - I don't need Joni calibur of writing all the time - I freely admit I enjoy much of the star maker machine ry behind the popular song. Of course, as I've said before, my favorite singer now behind Joni and Stevie has to be Rosanne Cash, so maybe I'll redeem myself there. I still think Rules of Travel is one of the best songs ever written, and her new album is beyond words (but is so full of loss that it saddens me so much I can't listen to it anymore at the moment). Well, I better get back to my Mariah and my wonderbread and cheez whiz sandwiches back in the trailer, TGIF, Rob ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Mar 2006 12:06:14 -0600 From: "roberto munguia" Subject: Re: Post Hejira faves oooooohh a favorite post-Hejira song????????? gotta be Two Grey Rooms and maybe Pork Pie Hat, too. Rosanne is my #2 as well. I assume you have her cover of "River"? Beautifully performed, I think. Black Cadillac is an incredible album. I love Rosanne's refusal to be what her father's fans need her to be--and to be herself.
