Kate's song, Irene, played in my head for weeks afterward. What a beautiful soul-hitting song! If you're going to have an earworm, that's a wonderful one to have.< that was a fun night! Thanks for remembering... rosie is right they've moved to a new location, same hood but bigger & cozier room... ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Jan 2006 20:13:45 EST From: RoseMJoy@aol.com Subject: Re: Sonya Kitchell at the Joni Mitchell Tribute yeah that room was way too small. you had to get there early to get a seat. (Spoiler warning!) Applause on all sides now Stars gather for concert in tribute to Joni Mitchell Friday, January 27, 2006 BY JAY LUSTIG Star-Ledger Staff POP/ROCK Not sure what the caption "spoiler warning" is about (is that like "false alarm warning" ?, but I've been looking at this event from both sides now - up and upper.) So, now maybe we're back to upper. I saw an Actor's Studio show the other night with Elton John (he played at least a half dozen songs in what felt like a 2-hour show). I think they should have Joni as a guest subject. She'd be perfect for that show (and it for her). I first fell in love with Joni and her music at a 1969 concert at the Fillmore East in NYC. Joni has occupied the number one spot on my list of favorite performers ever since. No one has even come close to matching her talent for expressing thoughts and emotions with music that moves and stirs your soul. I agree with those of you who have expressed that when it comes to Joni, it's all about unconditional love. Sure, there will be things that happen at times that leave you with more questions than answers, but Joni would not be Joni if it happened any other way. Some of us have discovered Joni's music recently. Others of us have been with her from the beginning. Regardless, we are all blessed for having Joni in our lives. Switching gears now, how many of you live in the great state of New Jersey? An article written by Jay Lustig appeared in today's "Ticket" section of the Star Ledger newspaper about the upcoming Joni Tribute Concert. The list of performers is not up-to-date so I am not sure how many days ago the article was written. In the article, Jon Marcus, Music for Youth Foundation Executive Director, is quoted as saying that Joni Mitchell is planning to attend the tribute, but that she isn't scheduled to perform. This information may be correct or it may be incorrect. What we do know for sure is that this is going to be one incredibly awesome evening celebrating the life and work of Joni Mitchell. I look forward to seeing you there and sharing the common bond that we have as kindred spirits. BUT... I was REALLY sorry that I had already agreed to judge a photo competition on Thursday evening & would not be able to see all you guys play the Benefit Shoe at Rockwood. NOW... I see that it won't begin until MIDNIGHT? Guess what? If that's true, I'll take off from work on Friday and will drive into the city after the photo competition and catch you all at the ROCKWOOD. I don't care when it ends. I'm looking forward to THAT as much as the Carnegie Hall show 'cause I've seen what you all can do at JoniFest. That means lots of places (including the usually pricey restaurants) will be offering price-fix lunches for $24.07 (to remind you that NYC is a 24/7 town) and dinners for $35. It's an inexpensive way to check out some places you might not consider going otherwise. For a complete list of the participating eateries, just Google "Restaurant Week, NYC" and you'll find many sites with info. Reservations are recommended as many places will be busy.
