Last night Marianne and Bree called me to say that Marianne found out the doctor thinks her dad has less than a month to live. So, she can't travel right now and Bree of course can't leave Marianne to attend the Tribute. They were going to give me a ride from Albany, and we were going to sit next to each other at the concert. With this and also with my husband's mother not doing well right now, I guess the trip just wasn't meant to be for me. I was looking forward to seeing you all and hope I can in the future. About Your I-Ching Reading Your complete I-Ching Reading is divided into 4 parts: * _Your Present Hexagram_ (http://www.tarot.com/oracle/reply.php?rID=70769552&code=#present) * _Your Changing Lines_ (http://www.tarot.com/oracle/reply.php?rID=70769552&code=#clines) * _Your Future Hexagram_ (http://www.tarot.com/oracle/reply.php?rID=70769552&code=#future) * _Going Forward_ (http://www.tarot.com/oracle/reply.php?rID=70769552&code=#goforward) Your Present Hexagram This hexagram gives you reflection on the situation or relationship as it was at the time you cast your coins. 57 "Gentle Penetration" B) 1998-2006 Visionary Networks The general situation suggests a subtle penetration. Reeds bend softly in the wind, symbolizing flexibility and endurance. Here we see quiet, relaxed effectiveness in action. A gentle influence is at work, but just as the wind is ceaseless in its efforts, so too small forces can persist to produce lasting results. Gentle penetration bodes well for new relationships. Just as a summer breeze slowly penetrates the woods to cool the forest, the ideas of gifted leaders slowly reach the minds and sink into the hearts of the people. In personal relationships, a gentle beginning is often linked to a long-lasting union. When employing a force that is weak but persistent, careful aim is necessary, for only when a small force continually moves in the same direction can it have much effect. In human affairs, this kind of influence comes more through strength of character than by any direct confrontation or seduction. It's important to have, and stick to, clearly defined goals. Maintaining a strong vision and following a steady course of least resistance often brings good fortune. Your Changing Lines The _Changing Lines_ (javascript:moreInfo('lines')) , if you get any, are the part of an I-Ching reading that give the most powerful advice about a situation or issue, because they represent the factors that are causing things to change right now. You have two Changing Lines. Either one or the other or some combination of both of them will be relevant. The first changing line is line 1 Inborn gentleness often has indecision as a negative side effect. This situation points to a case of a gentle spirit drifting into quandary, becoming filled with self-doubt. When the rudder of personal will flaps back and forth uncontrollably, with no clear direction, it must be grasped firmly, and set back on course. Some kind of external discipline may be necessary to accomplish this. The second changing line is line 2 When dark forces seem to be undermining your plans, trace the shadows back to their source, and gently expose them to the light. Openness and honesty succeed - but only if you are first honest with yourself. Search your heart and mind for hidden enemies: self-pity, pride or a rigid view of what "should" happen in life. An excess of either hard and arrogant, or soft and self-indulgent, feelings obstructs progress and saps your strength. By gently bringing negative inner feelings to the light of day, you can effectively rob them of their power over you. Your Future Hexagram When you have one or more _Changing Lines_ (javascript:moreInfo('lines')) , you also have a second hexagram, "Future", which predicts the way things are going to go if you follow the advice of the Changing Lines. Asking the I-Ching for a new approach to your concern or situation is an excellent idea when you don't like the looks of where things seem to be headed. 37 "Community" B) 1998-2006 Visionary Networks A family that works is one where healthy interdependence is supported. Leadership is essential, but strong kinship is dependent upon every member of the clan. Trust, shared responsibilities and good communication are essential. Each member must be encouraged to find his or her appropriate expression, and contribution. The functional family is a team which symbolizes the ideal of human interdependence, and has long provided a firm foundation for society. The healthy family is a microcosm of society and the native soil in which ethical values take root and grow. Fertilize this soil, and the whole of society benefits. The power which bonds a family together is the feminine principle - gentleness and receptivity. Relationships in all kinds of teams are improved through cultivation of this principle. Learn to accept both advice and aid from others, and be willing to assume an appropriate role in any group you join. A good team player is very valuable to others. Going Forward If you found your I-Ching reading helpful, this is because you were sufficiently focused on a subject you wanted advice about, and were not asking for data or a yes/no answer. (If you asked the wrong kind of question, like "where should i go to lunch?" or "what is the meaning of life?", you might want to try again!) In any case, your I-Ching reading might reveal a trend in your life that is less than desirable to you. Asking the I-Ching for a new approach to your current situation is an excellent idea when you don't like the looks of where things seem to be headed. _Click here to ask the I-Ching another question_ (http://www.tarot.com/xfer2.php?l=63&type=ht) . I just read the Digest and I'm reeling in shock from Cathy's Posting. Do you know what has me the most troubled? How can someone love Joni, appreciate the complexities of her work and Post something so hurtful? Cathy, if you're reading this, what do you mean "I never thought it would be like this"? Like what? What's not fulfilling for you? I don't usually experience angry feelings.... accept another person's perspective without judgment....but something about Cathy's posting hurt. And I'm entitled to express my feelings as are you, Cathy. However, you haven't given any one of the Digest members a chance...you can't possibly know anyone in such little time. Most of all...I've got it...what's really bugging me...why post something like that at all? Was it meant to be hurtful? And, during a time when there is so much excitement that we are having about the up-coming Joni Tribute. I apologize if I've offended anyone by posting this but I think Cathy's posting deserves my honest reply. Oh...why "peep" and why "Bo"...promised I'd tell you. Long story short. My parents adopted a baby boy who was born with mid-brain damage...more commonly known as Cerebral Palsy. Mike couldn't say "Phyllis" (a name I really don't feel comfortable with at all after being teased in school because it happens to rhyme with a horrible disease)...anyhow, Mike came up with Peep. Later when my parent took in Barb after her mother died, She started calling me Bo Peep....not good!!! So she shortened it to Bo. There...you have it! Now, back to Cathy. Cathy, Joni has been a deeply pivotal person in my life even though we haven't actually "met". There are all kinds of meetings in one's life. I've learned so much from this amazingly talented, complex and very kind woman. I've had the good fortune to pass along some of what I've learned from Joni to others. I taught a gentleman who was released from prison how to read from her early albums. I've "entertained" very lost souls who have been tucked away in mental institutions with Joni's songs...we sang "out of tune" together and felt great. I've learned more from Joni regarding self-expression, self-respect and not selling out than anyone else. And I've found delight, solace, and, through her magical music and words have had the outlet to express an array of feelings. I wish you have the same set of positive experiences with someone or something in your life. Sorry this is so long...guess I had some things to say. WOW...am I looking at life from both sides now! Love, Sherelle Kakki wrote: Hi all, I've been away for awhile buried in work and life but have been keeping up a bit with the tribute plans. Joni or no Joni you all are surely going to have a spectacular time. The artists performing at the tribute are incredible (I think hearing Sedaka do a Joni cover is almost worth the price of admission alone....and Allison Krauss and Judy and Nelly ... geez!) Hell the Rockwood event alone sounds amazing to me. Anyway, I remember Julius excitedly telling me when we saw Joni at the Commonwealth last March that she had mentioned maybe performing one song at a future "childrens' benefit" so there was some reason for high hopes here. (I did wonder if she may be put off by the NYC smoking laws and was hoping someone like Mayor Bloomberg could give her special dispensation or something). I recently read an item here in a local magazine about a new hot spot that Joni is frequenting in L.A. so I think she is O.K. But here is the first thought that came to my mind when I heard she would not be attending the tribute - she has elderly parents in their 90s and she is the only child. Having been there myself I will tell you that it is pretty much impossible to plan ahead for *anything* especially travel. One is very much "on call" 24/7. It's something to consider. To all who are going - have a GREAT time, bring us back lots of stories and maybe some ahem recordings. Wish I could see you all there and look forward to hearding all about it. And hey, maybe she and Lori will decide to catch a red eye after the long lunch at the Grill - heehee. Had to post it. lol! http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Joni_Mitchell - -Julius Joni Mitchell Joni Mitchell is best known as the inventor of cannibalism. The actual circumstances of this world-changing discovery were rather interesting, as we will soon go into as soon as we finish getting our stomach pumped, and give the usher a nice tip. Now, then: Joni Mitchell invented cannibalism during a costume party being held by Jane Fonda (shortly before Ms. Fonda invented the Vietcong). Joni, who was dressed as Mork from Ork, had passed out in a vat of yogurt when she overheard a conversation being held by a coven of kittens dressed as rabbis describing the variety of flavour and succulence of the flesh of humans. Mistaking the kittens for God, Joni forged a sword from quantum to gut and fillet the parents of a young Oprah Winfrey, incidentally inspiring Ms. Winfrey to begin her life-long crusade against crime and the forces of evil as the costumed hero Batman. Other historians dispute this version of events, insisting that this must have been one of Ms. Winfrey's hundreds of clones, which she made from the rich African soul of Strom Thurmond. In any case, with the patronage of Jane Fonda, Joni's invention caught on, at one time being mass-marketed by Milton Bradley in the form of various board games, including Operation, Hungry Hungry Oprahs, Gut and Fillet Oprah Winfrey 's Parents Before She Becomes Batman, and Christianity. The sole hero of that depraved night of horror was Sid Vicious, of the superhero team the Sex Pistols. Vicious, who had been writing Java applets in the upstairs flat, broke through a brick wall with the power of his beautiful voice and managed to rescue hundreds of schoolgirls from a fate more filling than death. A little-known fact is that Joni Mitchell was also a Folk Singer. Her songs however tended to be haunting melodies about the Donner Party , Andean Soccer expeditions and Advanced Placement Precalculus, None of which sell well. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jan 2006 20:19:44 +0000 From: "Sherelle Smith" Subject: RE: sjc, freedom on the jmdl Whew!!! I'm not 100% sure on this, but if you don't have a dvd player on your computer, I don't think that there is any point in getting a copy made by anyone (at least not for immediate use). I don't think these will play on any other kind of dvd player (but will be happy to be corrected if I'm wrong). In a word: no. Not without expressed written permission. This from the Carnegie Hall FAQ: May I record a performance or take photos? No. The photographing, videotaping, or sound recording of any performance or the possession of any device for such use inside this theater, without the written permission of the Management, is prohibited by law. Offenders may be ejected and liable for damages and other lawful remedies. - ---- Sorry. But you're welcome to take photos at the Reception and we can lock your camera away in the Hall during the show, if you want. Let me know and I'll try to arrange storage for. - -Julius ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jan 2006 17:25:37 -0000 From: "Paul Headon" Subject: Website Hi I have just looked at the website, it is awesome. congratulations to all involved ! What other musicians would you recommend for people with serious psychiatric problems? uplifting, depressing, or both? Regarding Joni, what songs or CDs would you recommend? I spent 5 months in a day hospital program last year and we really didn't talk about music that much (art was much more emphasized) but another woman and I bonded over our love for Tori Amos. I have to be really careful about Tori though. Too much of her and I get depressed. I do love her cover of "A Case of You." take care, Mary Katherine ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jan 2006 23:13:30 -0600 From: Michael Paz Subject: Travel Plans Hi Everybody I am arriving at JFK on Tuesday Jan 31 at 1:30 pm on Jet Blue.
