[Oddmund Kaarevik ] Re: Carnegie Tribute: Sad news from Sam Feldman ["mack watson-bush" ] Re: Carnegie Tribute: Sad news from Sam Feldman ["JR" Subject: Re: Living Brokeback Mountain vljc I don't know your name but, your story moved me deeply. I am looking forward to seeing Brokeback Mountain when it is released in Sydney on January 26. I just know I am going to weep like a baby. Now, even more so because I will be thinking of your life experiences too. Many Australians will relate closely to this story. Our outback is very similar to the Mid-West of the United States. There are many young men living a life of fear out there in a very redneck society. This may be the reason Heath Ledger decided to do this movie. He would know of the plight of young gay men in the outback and the horrible rate of suicide out there. I have been brought up in a privileged environment and never had to suffer the pain of living a double life. Many years ago, when I was at university, I met a guy on the internet who lived in Wyoming. He was a true cowboy, living on a ranch and stuck in a marriage he couldn't get out of. He was miserable and took a great risk by even chatting to me. He was so desperate to live a life of truth and freedom but couldn't find a way out. It broke my heart. Then, as the song goes, "One day he just disappeared". I never found out what happened to him. Of course, this is the reason, Two Grey Rooms is so heart wrenching to me. To never be able to reveal your love to the only person who matters to you or to suppress your feelings and your identity is the saddest life to live. For Fundamentalist Christians to impose their ideals on others and create an atmosphere of bigotry and fear for others in their community is selfish and tantamount to emotional terrorism. You need to be in a more caring and accepting environment. Don't let it stifle you. I am sooooooo looking forward to seeing and hearing the performers listed, PLUS am STOKED to be gonna hear some of the JMDL'ers at the gathering at the Hall beforehand. So, yes its disapointing...but it will still be great. Its too bad tho, because it just seems it would be fun for Joni, to come and be adored. Hope its because Joni has something else terribly wonderful and thrilling and fun to do, rather than because she is not well. Guess one can't assume - one way or the other. NEVERTHELESS, we still have some hope left ; may any of you dear joni friends have some wild idea on how we can get tickets to the concert at present? Are there still tickets available in any way - Or is the last chance lost? Hopeful greetings!!! Why would anyone want to be the guest of honor at such an event and meet persons that admire them? I can't imagine. Bad form Joni. Makes much of her words in her music rather hypocritical. Then again, her right not to go. Some day there will be no praise and what will she do then? I suppose at that time we will find out how secure she is in her flesh. For all her protestations and proclamations to/about others she crosses the line when shitting on her fans. And just for the record she has put out some crappy music, along with the great work. mack ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Jan 2006 10:19:49 +1100 From: "Rachael Byrnes" Subject: Any Australians on this List Hi Joni Fans, Are any Australians on this list? There was no deception on her part. We were privy to information that she was considering participating in an event such as this. This is either not the event or she changed her mind. It's her perogative. I'd give anything to hear Joni appear live but she has no obligation to make that dream a reality. Through the years, I've purchased her music and have gotten far more than I could ever have imagined. Her music entertains, encourages and enlightens me and I expect it to do so until the day I die. She more than fulfilled her part of the bargain. If I were able to attend the Tribute, the main reason would be to meet the wonderful people I've come to know by being part of this list. A night of great music at Carnegie Hall, some sightseeing, hearing a few JMDL artists perform and generally getting to know my fellow friends of spirit -- seems like a super time. I'm envious.
