Maybe even ninth.... hooray! And, once again, Night Ride Home looks like being the big climber, I'm also pleased to say. Some placings obviously aren't going to change at this late stage but your vote could make all the difference in the following close finishes... Court & Spark v Hissing of Summer Lawns - I'm pleased to see we are not quite so enamoured of C&S as we once were and the more subtle charms of HOSL is gaining ground. MY VOTE; HOSL Turbulent Indigo v Mingus - TI better than Mingus? You cannot be serious! MY VOTE; MINGUS Shadows & Light v Ladies of the Canyon v Miles of Aisles - Tricky one this... They were asking him about the music he plays, and he said he's working on some Joni Mitchell songs. Hi Jimmy, Reading this I feel nauseated... especially after the warm desktop with both Joni and John on it. I'm glad Chapman is locked up. I remember the day John Lennon was shot. My husband Robert was a major fan. We were dating at the time, and he came over to my apartment wearing a shirt with John on it and pointed to him and said, in some pretty expletive words that John was dead. He was very broken up about it... angry and sad. I hope Chapman gains some sanity through Joni's songs. Michael Flaherty ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Nov 2005 17:36:44 -0800 (PST) From: Bob Muller Subject: Finally - the Sex Kills cover I've been wanting to hear!!! Ever since I heard Joni's performance of this song at the New Orlenas Jazz & Heritage Festival in 1995, I've been jonesing for somebody to really rock it out the way it deserves; after all, it is an angry song, and while I LOVE Joni's original TI version, I thought it would be interesting to hear a bit more metal on it. Well - I am beside myself with delight in saying that THAT DAY HAS COME! This week the progressive rock band Roine Stolt issued a 2-CD set called "Wall Street Voodoo", all original songs except for a rocking cover of Sex Kills. I thought that maybe a couple of you would be interested in hearing this, so I've mp3'd both Joni's '95 performance and the Roine Stolt cover. The '95 performance was (as most Joni fans know) a very historic one; Fred Walecki had designed a lightweight guitar for her, and by using the VG8 she became able to preset all of her 'alien' tunings so that she was able to go from song to song with the same guitar via the flip of a switch or two. Anyway, she opened her set that day with Sex Kills, and either intentionally or accidentally used a heavy metal fuzz effect on the VG8 (the same one she used on "Lead Balloon") and it gave the song a real wicked effect. But it was just the guitar, no band behind her to really push it. Here's the recording: http://s65.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3ABXGM24NJF59174MVWKIABZQ7 And here's the Roine Stolt recording of Sex Kills: http://s65.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=27YOCC3MEUQIT0C6GL9A8Q13D Hope you like it as much as I do - I'm always grateful when a 90's Joni song gets covered, and it seems to be a trend. For the record, our Nuriel Tobias has also recorded what I think is an excellent angry and chaotic version of Sex Kills too - more on that one later. How many of us were there, destined to meet each other *here* (and elsewhere)? Where did you travel from to get there? (I flew from San Antonio.) And what did you think of Joni's performance? It was my first time seeing her live, and although I was (regrettably) drunk as a lord, I was absolutely in heaven. So glad so many of you like my desktop pics. Thank you to those who have sent me feedback. I hope to eventually do one for every one of Joni's songs. So, if your favourite Joni song doesn't have a matching wallpaper, it's just a matter of time. In the meantime, I'd like to share with you the work I have been doing on CD covers. This is my main hobby and it is always a pleasure to do a Joni cover. There is a wealth of Joni bootlegs and because of the generosity of the people on this list, I have quite a collection of material. I am always making covers for them and I would like to share them with you all. I also do DVD covers. Here is the first one. It is the 1970 BBC concert (pink dress concert). I have saved them in .jpeg format. I hope this doesn't effect the sizing. The TV special was actually called, "Joni Mitchell Sings Joni Mitchell" so that's what I've called the album/DVD.
