Grab it now if you need it, in case it goes away again. IMHO, S&L without Black Crow is not S&L. Bryan - --------------------------------- Yahoo! My beautiful jungle garden is trashed but I was to sick to let it all really bother me. I no longer have to prune the yard, it was done for free. Congats to Allison! I hope you snuck in a WHITE lace wedding dress. Happy Birthday to Maggie and Julius Good luck to Paz on the almost new Gig. Now the Joni mention: Two weeks ago Thursday we got our cable back at 6:30, I ran in to watch the CBS evening news and when they did the honnor roll for soldiers killed they had one for a guy named Kenneth Fissel or some thing like that and Bob Sheiffer said "He's a drummer and a dreamer and you know their may be more" Wow 5 minutes into the world and I hear something Joni. Life can be so sweet A great big right-on for Rep.. John Mutha for speaking up yesterday to get out NOW!!! They were asking him about the music he plays, and he said he's working on some Joni Mitchell songs. (I'm not sure about the exact words). Well, this might be one more very good reason why the man should never get paroled. I hope the statement doesn't indicate another unhealthy obsession with another iconic artist. Why is Inside Edition even giving this guy press? Would we care what Charlie Manson listens to? Don't let him out, don't let him near her or anyone even remotely famous, and don't give him the attention. In addition to whatever pain it is likely to cause the family of the murdered person, there is absolutely nothing interesting about these kinds of killers. They are boring and cast in the same mold, and the public gains nothing of value from listening to them, but they get the kind of weird attention they apparently crave. There are many more interesting stories to be had out there in TV land. My name is Meg and I'm new, so if I'm doing this wrong, let me know and I'll have a do-over until I get it right. Now, here's the thing that I'm wondering about and hopefully all y'all can help me out here: Joni's supposedly in 'retirement' and isn't performing anymore, correct? Well, that doesn't add up to some info I was reading in the liner notes of my Mimi and Richard Farina CD where it states that Mimi formed an organization called 'Bread and Roses' in which performers take their talents on the road to hospitals and the like...and it lists Joni Mitchell as one of the participating performers. Does anybody know anything about this? Hi Meg, and welcome to the list-yes, you are doing it right-you can specify your subject in the subject line if you want. Mimi Farina has passed away, as you may know. Your description of the Bread & Roses organization is correct, although Joni's participation was in the annual star-studded benefit concerts in Berkeley. She performed in 1979 dressed in a masculine looking military uniform-memorably pictured in Rolling Stone. She played again in 1980 (this one I saw) debuting songs from WTRFast (solo) and doing a great version of "Sweet Sucker Dance" with Herbie Hancock, and a disjointed couple of songs with BB King and band. In my desktop picture for Lakota, I can't take credit for the main graphic. It is a still of one of Joni's photographs, taken from the video, Come In From The Cold. For those who don't have this video, each song is interspersed with a commentary by Joni. Leading into the song, Lakota, Joni talks about the photographs her and Larry Klein took while travelling through the Canadian prairies. Many of the effects that came out on the resulting photos were by accident. Larry was apparently dismayed at first by a double exposure of Joni over a photo of the plain. She thought she resembled Geronimo in that photo which was ironic, because she was actually wearing a T-shirt with Geronimo on it at the time. It's not Lakota but, I thought it was appropriate. Hope you like it anyway.
