Didn't you know Joni was not a Yankees fan? And if a list member wants to talk about something else she/he should be entitled. She is interested in Joni, and if she is a Joni person, then I'm interested in everything she has to say. Mike ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Sep 2005 00:46:43 -0400 (EDT) From: "walterphil" Subject: buncha joni vids i was at a flea market in collingwood new jersey last weekend, and a seller had a bunch of those bootlegged dvd's/vhs's for $10 bucks a piece a little pricey, but of course several joni's caught my eye, so i bought 2, and i'm sure glad i did the first is a 105 minute video compilation. the best on this one is the 3 times she was on the johnny cash show. the first from 1969. she sings "both sides now" and then "i still miss someone" with johnny. the second (from the same year i believe) she sings "the gallery" followed by "long black veil" with johnny. in both of these she is the pretty banged/long haired/fake eyelash joni. giggly and chatty with johnny, and it is so obvious he is enraptured with her. but the third episode from 1970 is quite a trasformation into the no banged, tanned, blonde eyelash and extremely confident joni. so beautiful, so assured, doing "california," "my old man" (unfinished) then finally "girl from north country" with johnny (as previously discussed this week) these are the best on this dvd, but there is also a super early 1967 joni from take 30 cdc tv doing a ridiculously long monolog followed by "blue on blue." also a nice early "little green" from cafe au go go NYC 1967. the last 4 songs i found interesting also-footage from the san remo festval in italy 1988 where she accepts a song writing award and performs a lovely "nite ride home," "lakota," " hejira," and a wordless "when all the slaves are free" (forgot the title) the second dvd is even more interesting cause it's joni from 65/66 from a canadian tv show called "let's sing out". this has to be seen to be believed, because it is so "mighty wind." the mc is some big eared handsome canadian galloot (oscar brandt) who introduces a young joni anderson! she does (over the corse of 4 shows) "born to take the highway," "blow away the morning dew" (a duet with oscar), "favorite color," and "me and my uncle" (a john phillips song) the later shows she is introduced as joni mitchell, and does "just like me," "urge for going," "night in the city," "blue on blue" (again), and another duet with oscar, "prithee pretty maidens" (gilbert & sullivan). it's great to see her onstage at the beginning of each show singing with the rest of the cast, the silly theme song. wish i could make you all copies. they are pretty great. Off-topic discussion is welcome, but there is a mechanism in place to help those that are not interested in it, and therefore subscribed to the onlyJONI version of the list. All it takes is a little consideration and respect for your fellow readers. From the list charter: "1) ALWAYS USE "NJC" IF APPLICABLE!!!!!: This is THE most important thing you will hear about on this list. What is NJC? It stands for "No Joni Content" and should be used as the first three characters of the subject line of any post you send to the list that contains no Joni Mitchell content. For example, if you are responding to a thread on the virtues of Yanni , the subject line of your post should be labeled something like "NJC - - Yanni is the greatest." This allows those that aren't interested in this topic to skip it or even delete it without reading it. More importantly, the proper function of the onlyJONI list depends on NJC being in the subject line. Majordomo automatically rejects all posts with NJC in the subject - stopping them before they hit the onlyJONI lists. Your proper use of this will keep the onlyJONI people off your back!" http://www.smoe.org/lists/joni.info Again: "More importantly, the proper function of the onlyJONI list depends on NJC being in the subject line. Majordomo automatically rejects all posts with NJC in the subject - stopping them before they hit the onlyJONI lists. Your proper use of this will keep the onlyJONI people off your back!" I hope that's clear enough. Thank you for your attention. - -- Nicola Larosa - nico@tekNico.net That's a bit too much navel-gazing for me. With enough effort, you make anything a symbol of anything else.
