A beauty book he has put together, "Paul Starr on Beauty" (Melcher Media), displays his many moods through interviews he conducted with 30 of the diverse faces he has painted. Among them are Lindsay Lohan, Joni Mitchell, Pam Grier, Ellen DeGeneres, Michelle Pfeiffer and Pamela Anderson, all of whom have their own takes on fantasy and identity. - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Deb Messling -^..^- dlmessling@rcn.com - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Sep 2005 12:01:47 +0100 (BST) From: Jamie Zubairi Subject: Re: Joni's memoirs Hi Judy That is great news.... I had read somewhere that Joni was considering her first line to be 'I was the only black man at the party...' I think this was a reference to a party she went to dressed as Art Nouveau (the 'black man' she dressed up as on the cover of Don Juan's Reckless Daughter' and yes, it was fancy dress and she was the only black man at the party. I think she was feeling out of place in LA at the time,a feeling tht I think she has got used to all her life, and she observed that at this party there were no people of colour apart from her who came dressed as one, which might have been awkward, might have been a political statement or whatever... in the DJRD songbook (which I won off ebay a few weeks ago)it has a nice pic of her dressed as Art standing next to then boyfriend Don Alias who is black.... I might scan it in and send it to the list... I can't wait for Dec! Mind you, she's been promising memoirs since the late nineties.... maybe she finally got round to approving her own words... lol Much Joni Jamie Zoob - --- JLoehr4988@aol.com wrote: > Hi...I just happened to notice, much to my surprise, > that Amazon has listed > 'Memoir' by Joni Mitchell scheduled for release on > December31, 2005! Amazon has been known to automatically assign dates to items - the fact that this one is the LAST day of the year makes me think it's just a random guess. By the same token, I hope you're right. That listing has been on amazon for a long time. The date - Dec. 31 2005 - is likely just a date they plugged in because there is no real release date. Also, it wouldn't be likely a book would be released on Dec 31, just as the holiday season is ending. But here's hoping the book actually is released one of these days. Bryan Tired of spam? Yahoo! I had been waiting for this to play some dvds that I recently got and which were of average quality, hoping that the new player would improve it, and it did. First was CSN&Y Wembley 74 which has quite a few short Joni appearances on vocals. She's actually singing (more than just vocals) on a Nash piano solo tune (Time After Time ?) but this is the 1 song where she's heard the most but not even seen once! Damn it, then I was ready for Joni in Wembley 83. She's in great shape, that evening and everything goes smoothly, no interruption due to people talking and stuff like that. Sadly I missed that tour but this show really puts you right there. It's a VCD though, would a kind soul have it available in DVD please ? At Jonifest, Ashara mentioned the dimeadozen bittorrent so I went there this week. There is a Joni DVD from 94 in Canada ! (Pfff, can't even download that, I'm in share ratio violation after only 4 days on the thing). Over 6000 shows there, so I'm going back to it now..
