Sherelle> The main thing I try to impart is that no one is going to "give" you anything. It is not required. You must create your own buzz and forge your own destiny. To give the artist a sense of self-sufficiency is the best thing I could ever do for someone. More than fiscal success, I prefer to see "emotional success" where someone stands and says with pride, "I am a musician" or "I am a singer/songwriter".< I agree. I think when someone asks us for help the best thing we can do is share our experience. We can't do any more. I don't think Joni ever enjoyed the biz part of music (as an artist, who does?). So the last thing she's going to do is start a music label. Dave Matthews started a label which picked up Patty Griffin (yay dave!) he must like that part of the music biz or he wouldn't have done it. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Aug 2005 08:52:28 EDT From: AsharaJM@aol.com Subject: Jonifest a la Francais We are finally back from 3 GLORIOUS weeks in France! Jonifest was awesome, and it was great to just be able to go, without a care in the world. Thanks, Laurent, for making this happen. The posts so far have been wonderful and the detailed writing has given a truly fantastic picture of what transpired. So, instead of writing yet another post, I will just name some of the highlights for me: - - breakfast each morning with Chris, Strings, Martin, Eric, and Thierry - - Martin and Rajah's sweet love affair - - Stryngs making me cry *yet again* with Cartwheels over the Watering Can and Frank's Song - - being so pleasantly surprised by Sam and Lizzie a day earlier than expected - - meeting Catherine's kids - - WINNING the song association game with Lizzie, Bob, and Michael - - the incredible view from the "loo" - - wonderful food - - all the performances - - intense gratitude that Catherine was on the road to show us where Jonifest was when we pulled in. (I think we'd still be driving around if not for that!) - - all the kittens - - video taping everyone's most funny faces - - Emiliano's enthusiasm and animation - - reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones. This, to me, is always the highlight of fest. And to answer everyone's question about 2007......yes, I am thinking that if enough people are interested in going back to Full Moon, I would be willing to organize it again. The choices are either Aprilish over a long weekend, or during the summer during the week only, no weekend included. If you are even remotely interested, please e-mail me privately and tell me if you prefer April or summer, or if either is fine with you, and we'll see where it goes. I ruled out 2006 only because there is already talk of a fest in Canada or Italy next summer. Hugs, Ashara, waiting patiently (sort of) for Chris to set up a place for me to load my Jonifest pictures from France P.S. Thanks so much for all the kind birthday wishes! It was a great one! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Aug 2005 13:26:32 +0000 From: "Sherelle Smith" Subject: French Joni Fest.Queen Lulu signs in Hi Lucy! Just a quick note to let you know how much I enjoyed your description of the French Joni Fest! I am a big fan of all three Lord of the Rings movies so you got my attention right away with your description! Thank you for sharing your experiences! Again, I felt as if I were right there! How absolutely beautiful!!!!! Matthews co-founded the label with another guy, who, I think, is the businessman in the equation, leaving him to be creative. I think Brenda's explanation fits the best-Joni wouldn't do this because it would be a blow to her ego not to be on a major. I think it would have made sense for her to start her own label several years ago, even if she was the only one on it. "Fountain" isn't listed in JoniMitchell.com's list of songs about Joni: << http://www.jonimitchell.com/ListsInspiredByInspiredByJMYear.htm >> I can easily see why anyone would think it's about Joni, though, with lyrics like "running of in search of a perfect stranger" and even the single word "sorrow!" The lyrics: Looking through some photographs I found inside a drawer I was taken by a photograph of you There were one or two I know that you would have liked a little more But they didnt show your spirit quite as true You were turning round to see who was behind you And I took your childish laughter by surprise And at the moment that my camera happened to find you There was just a trace of sorrow in your eyes Now the things that I remember seem so distant and so small Though it hasnt really been that long a time What I was seeing wasnt what was happening at all Although for a while, our path did seem to climb But when you see through loves illusions, there lies the danger And your perfect lover just looks like a perfect fool So you go running off in search of a perfect stranger While the loneliness seems to spring from your life Like a fountain from a pool Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light Youve known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight Youve had to hide sometimes, but now youre all right And its good to see your smiling face tonight Now for you and me it may not be that hard to reach our dreams But that magic feeling never seems to last And while the futures there for anyone to change, still you know its seems It would be easier sometimes to change the past Im just one or two years and a couple of changes behind you In my lessons at loves pain and heartache school Where if you feel too free and you need something to remind you Theres this loneliness springing up from your life Like a fountain from a pool Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light Youve known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight Youve had to hide sometimes but now youre all right And its good to see your smiling face tonight Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light Youve known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight Youve had to struggle, youve had to fight To keep understanding and compassion in sight You could be laughing at me, youve got the right But you go on smiling so clear and so bright - --- Bob Muller wrote: > forum I participate in. > And the question is: to the best of your knowledge, > was Jackson Browne's > "Fountain of Sorrow" written about Joni?> > > Mary, I've seen that rumor on the JMDL before, but > that's all it is as far as I can tell. I agree with him on some counts, ie. the Eminem lyric (not a particularly nice image) although in Joni's case it would appear he might benefit from a few pointers on basic human anatomy ;o). And what's his problem with keeping our natural environment around for a few more years?!
