And Jamie, the photographs were terrific. THANK YOU!!!!! It seems to me, from your description, Bob, that all the magic of Joni was captured at the physical site of the Fest. It's so wonderful to know that friends are united and a wonderful time was had by all. I wasn't fully aware that so many of the writers on the Digest are musicians! Just a quick note about a DVD I watched this weekend...called "Off The Map" with Joan Allen,Valentina de Angelis and Sam Elliot. It was one of my all time favorites....hopefully some of you will rent a copy. All is well in the Dog Days of August in New Jersey. What a HOT and HUMID summer!!! Love to all! And damn good ones as well - some have CD's out there, and just as many should have. Dontpoll, You are preaching to the JMDL choir. Amen. I'd by buy less ornate "takes", if they were also available. In addition to the 3 outtakes you found on "The Complete Geffen Recordings", there's a clearer, remixed version of "Paprika Plains" on "Songs of a Prairie Girl". I think Joni will keep giving us rarities in this piecemeal fashion. I think she's too much of a perfectionist to give us a whole box of rarities, all at once. There's 5 minute remix version of "Shiny Toys" around. I think it might be a 12" single. (Fact checkers please note I said, "I think!") My favorite take of "3 Great Stimulants" is the one she did at the Amnesty International 25th Anniversary (June 16, 1985). I won't tell you why; you should discover it on the JMDL video collections. I think parts of the first Carnegie Hall show (on video) have been excerpted here and there. I'd like to see a full-on DVD release of that. "I send up my prayer..." Jim L'Hommedieu DontPoll@aol said in part, >I recently purchased the Geffen Box Set, After hearing Joni's piano-only demo of "Good Friends", it made me long to hear more of these songs in a stripped down setting. Which leads to my next question - are there any plans for a rarities/outtakes compilation? Many bands do this; a lot of people don't care about that sort of stuff, but I like hearing bare bones versions of songs. Of course, it wouldn't matter much for her earlier work (would demos on STAS sound much different from the final product?). But on her 80's material, I'd love to hear some.> ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Aug 2005 22:52:17 +0100 From: Chris Marshall Subject: French Jonifest 2005 Pictures Mine are uploading (as we speak) to the hatstand.org gallery. I've been a fan of Joni's since the beginning and it's been great to read all of the tidbits of news and views of other fans of her wonderful music. Does anyone know of a good source for acquiring rare CDs or albums, eg, those that date back to the 70s and/or older live recordings? I would really appreciate any tips. Hi Mia, Yes, Boyd is the voice of "your serpent cannot be denied" Can't say if there is a connection with Tequila Anaconda, but i would venture to say probably not. Like I said Boyd is from Valentine, a small West Texas town. Also is Alpine and Marfa (have you heard of the Marfa Lights? VERY COOL) which are all very close together and the geography is prairie land at high altitude. Boyd is an artist and you probably would know him by the cover art he did on one of the Eagles albums (Cow Skull). This is how Joni and Boyd made a connection and became friends. Joni likened this area to where she grew up in Canada. Thanks for asking..glad i could share...take care, tejas ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Aug 2005 23:48:33 -0700 From: "Mark Scott" Subject: Re: DED Acoustic? - ----- Original Message ----- From: > Hi Mia, > > Yes, Boyd is the voice of "your serpent cannot be denied" Can't say if > there > is a connection with Tequila Anaconda, but i would venture to say probably > not.
