Firstly, condolences to the British listers. There were also several Australians injured in those attacks too. A young couple on the top deck of the bus in Tavistock Square. Her husband was blown out of the bus but they survived. Many amazing survival stories. Australia has sent Federal Police to help in the investigations. New anti-terrorism measure are being implemented across Sydney including sonar devices to watch under Sydney Harbour. These are sad times but, one good thing about today's modern technology is that we know about your suffering immediately and can rise up in support from around the globe. Keep a stiff upper lip, Britain. We're with you. I'm just putting out the call again for anyone who has any remixes or extended versions of Joni's songs, such as the singles that were released. If I can gather enough of them, I will compile a CD of them for any JMDLers who wants one. Thanks very much to David Marine and Jussi in Finland for your contributions so far. Can it really be more than 5 years ago?! I think Bob has me confused with another jimdler though, but hey it's been a very long time so I'll forgive you Bob ;) Not too sure where those 4 years have gone; I withdrew from online stuff almost completely for about two of them, then tried getting back in the saddle gently last year. Moving in new circles didn't really work out for me; I suppose the world, the net and me myself have all changed in so many ways that you can never quite find the same groove you did in the "good ol' days". Even the symptoms of my illness have altered almost beyond recognition, setting me new challenges and stretching my frayed patience ever further. It's amazing what time can do to change things and keep you on your toes. When I was last on the JMDL, I came in as very much an 80s Joni fan - CMIARS and DED were my introduction to her, followed by the gorgeous NRH which was probably my favourite album until I discovered Hejira in the late 90s. I still love the "interior decoration" of the 80s records :D, but I probably lean more towards the mid-70s Joni period now. I did feel a bit guilty at not really *getting* the last few albums she released, all the orchestral stuff and the reworking of old material. Travelogue was nicer than BSN, but - don't shoot me - I rarely listen to anything post TI when it comes to the lady these days. Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for the forgiveness! And don't worry, nobody's going to shoot you about not spending a lot of time with the post TI albums. I tool T'log with me to the beach and was giving it a spin on the porch with my wife's uncle, who appreciated the novelty of it but like me felt it went on for way too long. It would have made a great single CD if you take the best cuts off both discs. And I have no use for BSN whatsoever. Matter of fact, I heard the T'log version of Borderline today at work (playing all the discs I've ripped to my hard drive in random song sequence) and am still amazed at how badly this song translates to the genre & arrangement. Lyrically, there are parts of the song that should be full of rage, and there they are surrounded by the syrupy strings - kind of silly. A real music fan, as I recall. Hey, BSN has its uses...it looks nice between TTT and Travelogue on the shelf :) I felt the same as you about Travelogue, it was *better* than BSN to these tastes but overlong. I've missed out on an odd time for Joni releases, really - the orchestral albums, then all the compilations. If I'd be away between, say, 1970 and 1975 I'd have missed Blue, FTR, C&S, Miles Of Aisles and Hissing....blimey! I don't know what the consensus among jimdlers has been about all the collections (okay so they're themed, but still) - I bought The Beginning Of Survival because I'm an 80s/90s sinner , but then to see two more follow with almost indecent haste dimmed my enthusiasm somewhat for those. And to see Dancin' Clown on the Dreamland best-of.... That said, the packaging for both Travelogue and TBOS was extremely nice. The first one is not really a re-mix of Joni's song, but rather a re-mix of her voice, specifically her impassioned Isle of Wight speech. The artist is listed as "Cabbage Head" and the track is titled "Fun Fun Fun", and no it bears no resemblance to the Beach Boys song: http://s41.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1OFZSOVYC2K3W0V71NIEWY70ZK I'll have another one for you in a minute which may be more up your alley.
