The Tony-nominated actor possesses a smooth, clear and rangy tenor and an honest delivery that is extremely appealing. His voice is a blend of rock, folk and theatrical styles, and his songs of love, acceptance and political protest are catchy, clever and often touching. In addition to his own work, the long-haired Creel also covered "A Case of You," offering a fine version of the Joni Mitchell classic, which speaks of a "lonely painter/ [who] lives in a box of paints/ I'm frightened by the devil/ and drawn to those who ain't afraid." ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Jul 2005 09:33:22 EDT From: LCStanley7@aol.com Subject: peace through art despite war Do you know the German artist Kathe Kollwitz? To cut a long story short, I was reminded from various things Joni-related of the JMDL - still the best online community I've ever encountered. I've been turning a friend of mine who is a lapsed 70s Joni fan back onto the wonders of Hissing and LOTC, and the old embers sparked up again. When I started enthusing about SIQUOMB to them, I thought back to the years I was on the list before. Don Row and his DED defences, Catherine, Colin, Bob, Wally, Azeem, Jamie...this people and their names have stayed with me even if the small details haven't always. Plus many, many other great people who posted regularly, wittily, enlighteningly (if that's a word!?) and of course so very articulately. I'm not sure how many "old-timers" ;) are still around, lurking or taking centre-stage; it's been so long for me that even trying to navigate the list archives led me down several blind alleys, attempting to figure out when I had to bow out and leave such a wonderful place behind. It was sometime in 2001, as far as my failing memory can tell me! My best to you all, Jason. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Jul 2005 23:01:37 -0400 (EDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: Coming in from the cold - SJC - --- JasonMaloney71@aol.com wrote: > Hello again to the jimdlers I once knew and those > who I will hopefully come > to know. Hey, who ya calling an old-timer, ya young whippersnapper? Long time, no hear from. In fact, so long that you're probably going to have to tell us how you first got into Joni and all that. Some of us are old-timers, others new-timers, and some are two-timers. But here we are. Welcome back!
