She gave me the Starbucks Selected Songs of Joni Mitchell. It had been opened and I presume played. Now did she... a) just *have* to listen to it before she gave it to me because she loves Joni that much. b) buy it for herself and then decide she didn't care for it and hence re-gifted. c) never mind doesn't matter to me, it was cool to get a CD i wasn't going to buy for myself. : ) I enjoyed the record. It was as if someone made a Joni mix tape for me and each song that came on was a lovely little surprise and I thought, 'Oh I love that song! Who picked that one?'. Then I'd go and read the little blurb in the booklet. (ok, i didn't love every song...almost though ). It would be cool to do a similar thing with JMDL. JMDL Selected Joni would be a far more interesting read/listen, don't you think? Or another idea...a mix Joni CD swap. Like a book swap, but instead of swapping books we choose a person to swap our own personal Joni mix CD. If there's any interest, I could organize something. Just let me know Joni peeps if you like the idea(s). Yes it's true, I'm desperate for a Joni-related project this summer since I am not fest-bound. It appears to have been a half-hour segment on her life and music. It did include her receiving a Doctor of Music award, as well as a number of old clips from various television shows, and small segments with her comments. There was also a clip of her talking to some students, and someone brought up a guitar. I believe the fellow who brought it up told Joni it was the first guitar she had ever played, and he presented it to her to see. She was very surprised, and remembered it as well. I went to the CBC site, but could find nothing on this segment. Maybe there is someone else who saw the program and can elaborate, or find out more from the website. It appeared to be very current - Joni looked great. Had it not been for a friend who knows what a Joni freak I am who called to tell me this was on, I would have missed it for sure. I scrambled for a videotape, and tossed it in, but it appears not to have recorded. Did anyone else catch this program?
