This is what happens when you give a person a Mac, DSL and insomnia. (Did someone already do this? -- Oh, and btw, if I disappear, please send a jmdl delegation to look for me in such fun vacation spots as Libya and Syria -- look for a certain CIA aircraft parked nearby, and listen for my voice telling interrogators anything they f**king want to hear.) Sung to the tune of a Joni song with a similar name: We Have a King We have a king In a snowy-white castle Lately he's taken To facile-ly starting up war (Otherwise, he's a bore) He grins with contempt -- Oh, he makes me verklempt, What a ding-a-ling! He puts us in arrears While he tax-breaks his peers Let the people sing: We can't take this crap anymore He shouldna had another four We must take pains to evict this man We surely can -- I just know we can We have a king Looks like Alfred E. Neuman He needs to be shaken (He barely is human, or smart) His VP's a fart. Into Iraq he did rush With false rumors of WMD's Young folk come back in a sack From "defending" our "liberties" We can't take this crap anymore He shouldna had another four We must take pains to evict this man We surely can -- I just know we can We have a king Who spends millions on parties He lets all his flunkies Take most of the heat for his crimes (While he pursues pastimes) Tell me how he shows his face What an ass, for these awful times! He sends young folk over To fight a bad war While the country chimes: We can't take this crap anymore He shouldna had another four We must take pains to evict this man We surely can -- I just know we can Let's give him the can We surely can! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Mar 2005 09:54:24 -0500 From: "Richard Flynn" Subject: Songs of a Prairie Girl From this article in the JMDL Library http://www.jmdl.com/library/view.cfm?id=1155 : "Saskatchewan will be hearing plenty from Mitchell in the next year. JONI, STOP THIS MADNESS!! How many of her songs are "about the province"? Approximately none, though there are passing mentions in a few, Paprika Plains probably has the most: Back in my home town They would have cleared the floor Just to watch the rain come down They're such sky oriented people Geared to changing weather "I come from open prairie, given some wisdom and alot of jive" (DJRD) Since this article is from last May, I assume the other CD comp. is one of the ones already released. He played and did wind/brass arrangements on a number of their albums, but it's his work on Steely Dan's Aja and Joni's For The Roses that stand out to me. His arrangements made immeasurable contributions to these two albums. Neither would have been the same without him - he turned music that was already superb into something just out of this world. He seems to have had such amazing good taste, to be able to add touches with his arrangements that highlight, support and add interest to the music without ever dominating. A master! As one sheet music collector to another I'd be happy to help. Rob Lindley >> Hey, Rob -- That may quite possibly be it -- but I can't seem to find the site, or link, where the songs in that book are/were listed. (I just tried jonimitchell.com, and found *some* of the sheet music books info). Can anyone who won one of those books at the 2003 Fest Raffle (in the bahn) help me out -- again, I think about six or eight songs that are NOT on any album. Urge For Going is probably among them, and Carnival In Kenora. Or better, can someone help me find the link I vaguely remember from 3 or 4 years ago, that lists all the sheet music from all of the books that are/were at one time available? Thanks to all, and especially to Rob for the offer, which i will take up as soon as i can give you the info as to which songs i need... best, Walt ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Mar 2005 15:19:43 -0500 From: "rflynn@frontiernet.net" Subject: Re: Songs of a Prairie Girl Quoting Randy Remote : > > JONI, STOP THIS MADNESS!! > > Since this article is from last May, I assume the other CD comp. > is one of the ones already released. > RR > > > We can only hope that this is so. When will we see a proper box set? When she's Myrtle's age????? As a left-handed male, I have my doubts as to ever seeing that day. But who knows? I've been REAL WRONG before! This reissuing of already released stuff is insane. I think Joni doesn't want to retire, she wants to keep putting out product but rather than push herself to be creative she just takes this lazy way. IHAK is a tough parody because the rhyme schemes are so darn tricky. I did one a couple years back for 2003 Fest and I wracked my brain and went thru several re-writes until I had something I was OK with. Keep up the good work - but do get some sleep. Next milestones: 150 BYT's (now 132) 100 Circle Game's (now 87) 100 River's (now 83) Of course, I fully realize that I may hit the 500 mark for BSN's before I achieve any of these three! How does Joni get that cool sound on the intro? Is that a mandolin, dobro, banjo, banjitar/guitjo, etc. or just some kind of cool picking technique (like picking at the very end of the string right on the bridge). I'm sure it's an alt. tuning since this IS Joni, but any insights you have would help. I just love that sound, especially from the intro. Very distinctive. Plus the song is wonderful. I could imagine a lot of other arrangements that would be coo, but nothing could be better that this.
