Now me: After listening to the Joni's Choice cd and transcribing her notes from the liner for someone special, I consider this disc as a long awaited second chapter to the My Top 12 show from the BBC May 29, 1983 (Tape Tree #5.) Billie was on that one just for you Mark ;-) And Laura for those of us with leanings in her direction. The Edith Piaf track was the only repeat in the two sets. The title track of Gaucho was there too, so that makes 3 SD tracks on the two disks. hmmm. Wonder what that means? And Joni being Joni (as always, G-d bless her) she manages to work one of her own compositions onto each setlist. Go Joan!!! Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone. my best regards to all of you, my Jonifamily, Brian in south jersey Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you've got till it's gone --Roberta Joan Anderson, who never lies Tired of spam? They often come to the Soho Theatr in London where I used to work as an usher and their sets are amazing. One show's crescendo included songs with the theme of 'turning' and included the lines for WB Yeats' The Second Coming as sung by JM Also in the Xmas show (if Kiki and Heb could EVER do a 'nice' Xmas show - which included a song about Jesus - Banging in the Nails) during Kiki's long and rambling drunken monologues, Herb always plays recognisable excerpts from 'River' which I never asked him about, despite getting quite chatty with them. Anyway It's too cold to type in London Much Joni JamieZoob - --- "Gerald A. Notaro" wrote: > Richard Goldman said: > > n.p. Wonder what that means? Fagen & Becker were the best writers IMO during that rock jazz-influenced music of the late 70s early 80s. Joni was well into her jazz period then and she probably acknowledged them for the brilliant artists they were. There's such a sophistication in Steely Dan's music that's not unlike Joni's. Have their paths never crossed? I recently saw Dean Parks (played on Aja) with Crosby Nash. Introducing Parks, Crosby said Aja was undoubtedly his fave album ever. There's a semi related article about Crosby's son's band at: http://crosbycpr.com/content/features/features_text/Goldmine_99.html They also turn in a terrific version of Joni Mitchell's masterpiece, "For Free." However, this wasn't merely a 'retro/best of' concert, as they confidentially unveiled four new songs (including two written or co-written by Raymond) which are also included on their debut studio effort. The vocals are superb throughout, and the musicianship is miles beyond the somewhat loose and ragged CSN sound. Raymond has a slick, jazz-influenced piano style, and combined with Pevar's Larry Carlton and Phil Keaggy-esque guitar phrasings, the overall sound is similar to a youthful CSN backed by a cross between Steely Dan and Joni Mitchell circa Court and Spark. I think Aja should have been in MY Top 50. It's exciting and exhilarating, but it's good to remember that SOME things last--and they're in art!" So boldly declares authorprofessorcritic Camille Paglia, on the eve of launching her new work: BREAK BLOW BURN. "Poets must remember their calling and take stage again!" >> - - AND - - << From canonical Renaissance verse to Joni Mitchell's Woodstock, there are poems about the all-devouring maelstrom of politics (Yeats) and also about the awesome vastness of nature and the cosmosess. >> __________________________________ Celebrate Yahoo!'s 10th Birthday!
