Chinese Cafi is, to these ears, so far superior to anything else on that wretched album (sorry WTRF fans, but there it is) that it actually sounds out of place. I believe it is the last truly GREAT song she wrote - yes, so subjective a term as to be virtually meaningless - as opposed to the handful of very good ones dotted around the subsequent albums. I did see the show at Sydney Opera House and she did speak with some of the fans after that show as did some of the band. I still have the program in my all important things bookshelf. On the whole, WTRF is doing all right in the covers dept (around 25 or so), especially when you compare it to DED (1 cover of Ethiopia is it) & CMIARS (5 or 6 total). Even though it's my favorite movie of all time, I don't think I could watch the play 1- without the Cat Stevens music and, 2- if it doesn't follow the film faithfully. I also own the original book by Colin Higgins and the film follows the book pretty closely. From what I read of the play, it does not remain faithful to the original story so I can't understand why anyone would bother to produce it or how H&M fans would want to see it. The reason I remember that sticker is because I always thought it was strange that Chinese Cafe was mentioned when I considered it one of the weaker songs on the record. (still a good song though, and I often wondered about the child she couldn't raise. I thought perhaps this was a child she gave up in her later adult years before we ever learned about Kilauren). WTRF is such a great album. Songs like Moon at the Window, Be Cool, and Ladies Man have such a unique and intense combo of rock and groovy jazz...
