That Song About The Midway - Bonnie Raitt. 4. The Last Time I Saw Richard - Ben Bennett. 5. All I Want - Natalie Merchant. 6. River - Robert Downey Jr. 7. A Case of You - Tori Amos. 8. Yvette In English - David Crosby. 9. Black Crow - Cassandra Wilson. 11. Woodstock - Tuck & Patti. 12. I Had a Kink - Joshua Redman. 13. Be Cool - Christine Sullivan. 14. Big Yellow Taxi - Counting Crows. 15. Help Me - Wynonna Judd. 16. How Do You Stop? - James Brown. 17. Blue Motel Room - Karrin Allyson. I also have a compilation a friend made up for me of early cafe recordings including Dr Junk amongst other songs. I have made it into another CD album which I call, Joni Mitchell: The Early Years. Hi I am de-lurking to ask two painful questions. 1 Have we heard the last of Joni Mitchell's music in terms of new songs? 2. In view of the damage she has done to her voice would it be better if we remembered her voice as we last heard it before it sounds too ravaged by long term cigarette abuse? As for me I hope we have more songs but I am very concerned about the voice issue. After all her brilliant singing over decades I would hate to see Joni's legacy tarnished by her singing on for too long. As you can see I am more than a little confused here ! I call Claudia's voice an "angel voice" because that is what it reminds me of...so clear, melodic, and beautiful. Her playing was also absolutely fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed her set and I am so glad I was able to make it out to Austin Grill. After her set, John, Lori, Rob, Claudia and I sat around and had the best conversation the rest of the night. We congratulated Claudia on a tremendous job, clinked glasses to upcoming and past birthdays, and spoke about life in general. My husband Rob who is by nature, a very quiet, shy person was so comfortable with hanging out with everyone. It was a night to remember for both of us. Rob and I are pretty much recluses when it comes to going out and I am close to terror when trying to navigate around the DC Metro area but it was so worth the effort to listen to such good music. To all of us I think, one group that was also wonderful was a group by the name of Iiyami (am I spelling this right John?) All I can say is, "Wow"! What an original acoustic band! It consisted of guitar, voice, congas with intermittent piano and castellanos (sp?) being played on different songs. Very original! So there was good food and good friendship kindled. I will never forget it. Thank you John, Claudia and Lori for giving Rob and I such a wonderful night. Thank you Claudia for letting me hear that beautiful first song again! I heard it and fell in love with it when I attended Jonifest and it was such a pleasure to hear it again! She has publically stated that she is done, she's said she has writer's block, and that she no longer has the need or drive to do music since she has reunited with her daughter. Although recently, she did say she was getting interested in music again-whether as a listener or writer, I don't know. Of course, it's been 6 1/2 years since her last album of originals. > 2. I have found a group of people called Northwest Medical Teams who have been in South Asia since very soon after the disaster. I have agreed to send them supplies and meds to help with their effort. I also have contacted a group of Christians that are in Sri Lanka that have an alliance with a church I have been working on a project I Kenya with. So much positive things happening and I am encouraged. This morning Dr. Heiman called me and told me Dennis Quaid would like to make a trip in to the affected areas and would like he and I to go with him. They want to leave on Monday which I think is crazy and am working on trying to figure out an alternative plan. I just got off the phone with Dennis and have agreed to try and out a trip together for us. We will see what happens next. Again I would like to send out special love and thanks to Sherelle Smith and Robert, Kenny Bausert and his wife and his friend Tod (NOT on the JMDL) who have been so generous to our cause.
