Now Fanta/Coke Yes... hmmm Fanta... Some little known facts... It was produced by the Coca-Cola Co during the 30's instead of regular Coke, for the European market, specifically Germany, as their importing rules wouldn't allow them to import 'Coke' and specific ingredients for regular Coke, into Germany. The Coca-Cola Co invented Fanta so that the Nazis could produce and enjoy a Coca-Cola product. I've tried to stop buying Coke this year as they are directly against workers unions and workers rights. Their factories in India are draining the natural water resources and causing local famine in the areas surrounding those factories... I wish there was a website... Symposium Cat out of the bag Hi all, I was listening to the symposium stream this morning and I heard something that I only took as encouraging. After the section where Greg Tate gives his brilliant talk on 'How Black is Joni Mitchell?' Joni tells the story of her meeting Mingus and being called a 'skinny-assed folksinger' she talks of the fact that he was the only one that could hear the strings which were out of tune with the piano (or the piano which was out of tune with the strings, depanding on how you look at it) and that she might 'tweak it for the next release'. I'm sorry?!?!?!?!??!!!!!?!?!?!?! ... Paprika Plains is due for another release? Where? When? Why? Also the talk was very encouraging in that she confessed that her love of music is being re-kindled by having to compile a "Starbucks" album. What is a Starbucks album? Is it one for the coffeeshops to play? Hope you are well Much Joni Jamie Zoob ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Jan 2005 06:53:19 -0800 From: "Mark or Travis" Subject: Re: Next Release...? They also sell a few regular releases along with them. There are various themes for these compilations and some of them are chosen by a given artist as their favorite 12 songs or the songs that have had the greatest influence or impact on them. I suspect that is what Joni was talking about. There have been collections of this type chosen by people like Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams and Diana Krall who chose at least one Joni song, I believe. When I moved to Seattle in 1978 Starbucks had something like 2 stores in the city and that was all. I loved walking into their store in the Pike Place Market because it smelled so wonderfully good. Their coffee was a revelation. In Keokuk Iowa, Folgers was about the best you could get for coffee and my mother was using only instant by the time I left home. It is still almost impossible to get a decent cup of coffee there. Unfortunately, Starbucks, SBC and Tully's have not made it to Keokuk. I am now a confirmed Seattle coffee snob. Travis even takes a pound of Starbuck's house and a small coffee maker along with us when we travel. Mark E. in Seattle where you can find drive-through espresso stands all over the city and occasionally two Starbucks stores practically accross the street from one another. (drinking a cup of Starbuck's house blend as I type this) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Jan 2005 15:29:27 +0000 (GMT) From: Jamie Zubairi Subject: Re: Next Release...? Symposium Cat out of the bag Hi Mark! Thanks for that. I went to Starbucks.com to check it out. It's rather cool, even though I don't agree all that much with multi-national corporations but I might check this compilation out! Much Joni Jamie Z Who, when he went to Malaysia, made sure that he went to a starbucks and got himself a Starbucks Malaysia Mug so that I could drink my Fair Trade coffee. --- Mark or Travis wrote: > Jamie Zubairi wrote: > > Also the talk was very encouraging in that she > > confessed that her love of music is being > re-kindled > > by having to compile a "Starbucks" album. Your reference to "helium voice" reminds me that the first time I heard Joni I wasn't impressed and sort of dismissed her. Then a couple of years later, a lady turned me on to Blue and wow! Her voice had become richer, the music more inventive and the lyrics made me ache for her. I just wish she had quit smoking at some point. - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: ; ; Sent: Friday, January 07, 2005 6:45 AM Subject: Re: Siquomb? > SWAAMTAA writes: > > << Is it just me, or does this stuff make anyone else > cringe? I had noted earlier that those lines also refer to "songs", which "are like tattoos". Quite the metaphor. I really liked the young student in one of the sessions bringing Joni the first guitar she ever played......I also loved the all the old clips from CBC shows from the 60s.....I would be happy to make a video of this if anyone would like it. ========================== "Do I contradict myself?
