There is however a river nearby, they cut down trees, in the churches the former East Germans sing songs of joy and peace. I looked out of the church window at the river and realized my baby is here with me, I didn4t make her cry, and she didn4t say goodbye. I am still in love and its wonderful....................... I am not sure about making lots of money, not sure if I want to leave this time. I see the river, it is almost frozen over. This year at Christmas we will have breakfast in bed, it will be quiet, we will watch the snow fall from near the fireplace in the bedroom. I don4t think I will teach my feet to fly away this time......................... Merry Christmas to all of you, my friends through so many years, welcome the new, and I cherish the old. May the new year bring all the joy and happiness you ever dreamed for. Bless each and every one of you............ Steve Steven A. I just think other people work wonders with his sketchy >>melodies. Well, it's a continuum ... some of Dylan's melodies may be sketchy compared to some of Joni's, but then some of hers could be considered sketchy compared to some of Pat Metheny's, for instance. However, it's the "sketchiness" of his singing (which I mostly adore) which may obscure just how great some of his written melodies are. If you transcribe the actual notes and play them on a piano it's easier to hear just how brilliant they can be; in particular, his genius for merging the artistic with the populist. Azeem mentions Shawn Colvin's rendition of You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go as the "gold standard" performance of that song. To my ears, Dylan's own version is the gold standard, and one of my favorite of all his recorded performances; Shawn's rendition is wonderful, even matching Dylan's, but as much as I dearly love everything Colvin, let's not put the cart before the horse. - -Fred ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Dec 2004 02:10:11 -0500 From: ljirvin@jmdl.com Subject: Today's Library Links: December 18 On December 18 the following article was published: 2001: "Kate Comes to Dinner" - New York Newsday http://www.jmdl.com/articles/view.cfm?id=709 - -------- Can you type? http://www.jmdl.com/typing/ ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2004 #359 ********************************* ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
