I just heard that none other than Judy Collins herself will kick off the new year with a cover of "That Song About The Midway" on her new release in January. More on this story as it develops. There's a helluva lotta musical repetition and quite possibly only a few chords in most, if not all songs, and it ought to be boring, but instead it's hypnotic and spellbinding. How she do dat? It's fierce concentration music. Our Joan must have been totally focussed when she wrote this stuff and she sucks the listener right into that focussed trancelike state. To me Hejira is winter music. Winter is a kind of desert. Hejira is desert music. It's getting cold out there (out here) so it's good Hejira-listening weather. > So much for old music. I haven't got that one yet but I've heard many good things about it. I think Bjork is amazing. I know she's not everyone's cuppa tea. Some people think she's without talent, and/or they just can't stand her. I think they need to pay more attention and listen. Some of her English cracks me up - the way she pronounces "jetto blaster", the word "smittens". I love the way she pronounces "heart" something like haarrrt. She's one of those people I might never have listened to if I weren't on this list. So glad I checked her out. I think she is some kind of mad genius. It seems too that Joni had something good to say about her: "I do like Sheryl Crow, who's self-sufficient, and Bjork, a fiery little thing." (1) I know she has said more. Nuriel, though that line is about suicide, this song also carries some hope and love and for me the sad part is what promotes so many feelings! Like so many of her songs... (love stimulated my illusions more than anything!) love ya, db >>>Fuck it! In this song she "processes" like mad. Goes through things. It has such a restless, pacing quality to it. I feel like she's pursuing truth like a prizefighter pursues his win. Aggresive, even. One oddity for me - the line "Fleece me with the gamblers' flocks"..lol I thought it said "fleece me with a gambler's floss". So I thought the word "floss" came frome the word "fleece". Thought I had learned something! Like maybe in the old days they made it (dental floss) out of wool? baaaaaaaa! :( Maybe the word "floss" is related to the noun "fleece". Anyone know?
