Hi Nuriel, I think the chances are slim that I will be going. So with that in mind, for revenge, I suggest that those who can't go, get together and secretly discuss loud and long and with great passion, the reasons why surely there must be a God. And all AGREE. And NOT tell Laurent! ;) Em ===== - ---------- "But Mona Lisa musta had the highway blues You can tell by the way she smiles" Bob D. vote.yahoo.com - Register online to vote today! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Oct 2004 01:31:19 -0700 From: "Kate Bennett" Subject: RE: JMDL Digest V2004 #431 marianne> A photo op. brian>Very true. On my computer it is now 75 screens tall. (!) If you're on the official site, www.jonimitchell.com you can access it easily. One way is to go to the news section called "THE WORD". Near the date (9/21/04) is a link called "GO TO JONI'S APPEARANCE CHRONOLOGY". Another way is to just go there directly: http://jmdl.com/chronology which implies it's on Les's space. Anyway, it's a cool place to spend some time because Simon used plenty of whitespace and has the occasional Joni quote. Recommened. Hi Mags, I guess she used it because Icarus was another Amelia. Or, Amelia was another Icarus. Both flew too close to the sun, both wiped out and were unable to continue the dream. When I infer that Amelia flew too close to the sun, I mean her dream of flying that gorgeous Electra around the globe, just her and Noonan and tons and tons of fuel, which were not enough to get her to Howland Island. (to be her next stop) She already undertook many risks getting even as far as she did, but they pushed it too hard at the end, and boom - her wings melted. In another sense, a more painterly sense, Joni is "repeating a form". Repitition of form is something us painters are taught to do to create continuity, I suppose. So yeah, throw in ol/young Icarus, who, w/his pop, Daedalus, needed to fly a long distance against the odds, to get away from the Labyrinth. (where my buddy, the Minotaur lives). Wherever there is human endevour I hope there are always Icarus' and Amelias and of course Jonis, to be found. Those with a fierce desire and need to fly farther than is adviseable to get where they need/want to go. Some will inevitably die trying. Travel channel has a show on Amelia Earhart they are currently airing in their "rotation". Its a good one I think, and a very plausible one. I've read about Amelia pretty much during various periods in my life, and like many of us, have often toyed with the diff stories about what might have happened. But this show really talked me into the fact that they simply ran out of fuel - due to weather conditions that either A.) weren't taken into consideration or B.) were bravely shrugged off in the spirit of this risky endeavour. Maybe the real reason Joni is not creating new musical art anymore is that she fears she would be venturing too close to the sun. :) Em ===== - ---------- "But Mona Lisa musta had the highway blues You can tell by the way she smiles" Bob D. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Oct 2004 02:13:44 -0400 From: ljirvin@jmdl.com Subject: Today's Library Links: October 24 On October 24 the following articles were published: 1980: "Shadows and Light" - BAM (Review - Album) http://www.jmdl.com/articles/view.cfm?id=563 1998: "Dylan, Mitchell keep the old crowd coming" - Minneapolis Star Tribune (Review - Concert) http://www.jmdl.com/articles/view.cfm?id=197 1998: "Legends of the fall" - Toronto Globe and Mail (Concert Preview) http://www.jmdl.com/articles/view.cfm?id=378 1998: "Oh what a night!
