It was eerie but so delicious. So, I have some earlier Dolores Keane where she has the high voice thing going on alot more...but I ADORED the way she sounded on that special. Was wondering if anyone can recommend a Dolores Keane album where she has the smoky low-voice thing going on already. Last time I tried this I ordered a CD that did not meet that requirement, lol. Still, a nice CD - but not what I wanted. Apologies if this was not enough Joni content, and if I should have flown the NJC flag. :) Em ===== - ---------- "But Mona Lisa musta had the highway blues You can tell by the way she smiles" Bob D. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Oct 2004 15:05:14 +0100 From: "Laurent Olszer" Subject: Jonifest in France > Could someone tell again, where in France this is? Em Between Narbonne, Perpignan (both by the sea) and Carcassonne. Less than 1 hour drive from the Mediterranean but on the west side. The french riviera (Cannes, etc) is 4-5 hours east, but too crowded anyway. Spain is 1 hour south. Hope you can make it. So there is quite a bit of interest even though my pictures are lousy. Great. So I'm going to figure out the expenses and everything. I guess the next step should be to set a date and a length. Anytime between 7/20 and labor day (9/4) is fine by me. How do we decide? I'll be mailing the pix tonight to those who requested them. None of the towns mentioned are shown on this - I guess it's too general. Anyway, my guess is that the town shown nearest this area is Toulouse? that area? or? am I way off base? Thanks, Em ps I would LOVE to go there and rent a motorcycle, and then ride down into northern Spain to the city where my father's family still is... wish this were being planned for say 3 years from now - I might be able to do it... ah well... ;) - --- Laurent Olszer wrote: > > Could someone tell again, where in France this is? > Em > > Between Narbonne, Perpignan (both by the sea) and Carcassonne. No. That is the area. Though I should be letting Laurent answer :) My Francophile friend stays in a piece of heaven called Collioure often, and may be there this summer. In the interview with PBS for "JM: WoHaM", she said she hestitated when Nash asked her to get married. She thought maybe her destiny was to fulfill her grandmother's unfulfilled musical dreams. Only a few years before, Joan Anderson gave up her daughter to dedicate her life to Sadie's dream; she became Joni Mitchell. In return, Joni got a *supernaturally large* talent and passion to write. When Joni regained her daughter, the muse left immediately. Sadie "took back" the gift. Joni said, "It's a rich exchange it seems to me." (Or are those Sadie's words?!) Joni dedicated the first album to Sadie if I recall correctly which only seems fair, in hindsight. "The gift goes on", Lama >>From: Bobdog25nj@aol.com paraphrased Joni: Joni: " Yes. As it turns out, I began writing music when my daughter was taken away from me - and stopped writing music when we were reunited.">> ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Oct 2004 13:13:16 EDT From: Rdalindley@aol.com Subject: Joni on Fresh Air Favorite parts - Her story about hearing Mabel Mercer singing "Both Sides Now." Particularly cool since the Mabel Mercer Cabaret Convention is going on now in New York City. Also loved her line about about always have a (paraphasing slightly) "pretty good anteana for CRAP-ola." Side note: Anyone in the Chicago area (or not) who want to come check out "Dark Cafe Days: Foiled Again sings JONI MITCHELL" we have a show this Sunday Oct 24 @ 8:00 at Speakeasy Supper Club (1401 W Devon - speakeasysupperclub.com). We had a great turn out last week. Turning people into Joni fans left and right. We just added a special show in honor of Joni's Birthday on November 7th - same place - same time. My response was ooooh la la, c'est magnifique! I was in Arles and Montpelier years ago, and it looks like this place is the same general area. It would be great to spend time in the countryside instead of just seeing it from trains going between towns. So put me down in the interested column. Thanks, Laurent, for getting this started.
